Can anyone supply me with a song that instantly affects you?

In the same style as Neutral Milk Hotel, The Decemberists, Bright Eyes, ...you know what I'm talking about.

Checked out great lake swimmers, and im liking it.

Never listened to mewithoutyou, although i've always been very close to doing so.

What album do you recommend?

mewithoutYou is great. I'd suggest A->B Life and Brother, Sister. They're polar opposites but my favorite mwY material. Plus, the hidden track on A->B is reminiscent of Neutral Milk (who i'm listening to now, ironically.)

John Lennon - Love
John Lennon - Mother
Cat Stevens - Father and Son (It gets to me anyway)
The Eagles - Desperado
Kings of Leon - Cold Desert
Bruce Springsteen - Working on a Dream
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should Have Come Over
Creedence Clearwater Revival - As Long As I Can See The Light
The Eagles - Wasted Time
Micheal Jackson - Man in the Mirror (to a certain extent)
The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby (I have my reasons)
Otis Redding
Bread

That should keep ya going haha. I know that I basically listed the most obviously 'touching' songs but they're my favourites so yeah....

This could turn into a great thread :-)

I'd also

blink-182 - What Went Wrong
Boxcar Racer - There Is

blink-182 - What Went Wrong

The title says it all. I haven't heard it but it sounds like an "awwwww!!!" song haha.

If we're looking at pop/punk kind of stuff I'm gonna have to throw in Fall Out Boy's "Where's Your Boy Tonight" THE ACOUSTIC VERSION. Patrick's voice. Yes.

Green Day's "Macy's Day Parade" and even "Redundant" and "Good Riddance" were pretty awesome.

Haven't heard much of mewithoutYou...

Apparently Panic at the Disco's "Northern Sownpour" gets to you but I disagree.

you might like william doyle's folk stuff, hes got a new song on the myspace

www.myspace.com/williamdoyle (http://www.myspace.com/williamdoyle)

otherwise hes in the style of flaming lips/beck with strong influence from shoegaze, electronica, and 60s pop

Kings of Leon (as I've already mentioned) are awesome.

"Cold Desert" "Arizona" "Be Somebody" and the hidden track on Youth and Young Manhood "Milk" and "True Love Way" are all 'get to you' songs.

"Ragoo" by them is definitley worth a listen purely because of the hook in the chorus haha.

Tyler Revolution

Nick Drake - Place to Be.
