Even for the people who don't care for newer Saves the Day, think about it this way:

The Format only put out two full lengths. The first of which is mediocre. The second is great.

Saves the Day have put out at the very least two genre defining albums in "Through Being Cool" and "Stay What You Are". I would personally argue that "Can't Slow Down" and "In Reverie" be added to that list, along with a pretty good release in "Sound The Alarm" and a very strong release in "Under the Boards". This also completely overlooks "I'm Sorry I'm Leaving" and any of their fantastic B-sides.

For me, Saves The Day had a great album in Stay What You Are and a good album in Through Being Cool, and Chris is an awesome dude, but The Format were two for two in great albums, with one being Interventions & Lullabies, one of my favorites in recent years. Like others said, pretty much all their albums really are different and have something special worth listening. Get a hold of the Ups and Downs compilation of b-sides and early recordings, the title track is one of their best, and it's a nice sampler of how they progressed and what they've got to offer, but you definitely must hear all of through being cool and stay what you are. They're classic. In Reverie and Sound the Alarm are as different as two albums can get and yet both great, though they'll probably take more time to grow on you. The most recent album, under the boards, has a really good balance of styles in it and if you liked at your funeral, you may enjoy can't stay the same.. Their first album, Can't Slow Down, is also a solid debut, but you probably won't find anything too groundbreaking there. And if you're into acoustic, there's 3 Bug Session EPs that sample across their entire catalog. Not mentioning other great demos and always amazing live performances.

No disrespect to The Format, but they really can't compete with all that.

i went to see the format play acoustic. but i didnt know any of their songs, but i thoroughly enjoyed it. then i went home and listened to all of their albums. that is a testament to how good the format are.

Saves the Day was and still is one of the most monumental bands in this "scene" of music.
I've been listening to them since middle school and I am 20 now.
By far my favorite band ever so they win hands down for me.
