So in English we have to write this argument paper, and this time around we have to choose our own topics. The thing is, I can't think of anything that is not too "big" to be covered in a two- or three-page essay. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I want to avoid all the major, overused topics because nothing I say will be original if I use one of those, if that makes sense. However, I would like it to involve LGBT rights or LGBT issues, because that is something I feel strongly about and would have an easier time writing.
Anything?

That's a pretty vague topic. Do you have to do this through any specific texts or is this just a free-for-all opinion paper?

It's not through specific texts. Basically our teacher just wanted an excuse to leave us to our own devices for a while. We can choose anything (school-appropriate, I presume) and use any resources we can find. She isn't requiring documentation or anything because she said she wants it to be "in our own words," so while we are allowed to present facts and statistics, as I understand it, we are not supposed to quote anything, etc. It's very broad, and like I said, she mostly just wanted to give us some form of assignment while she catches up on everything else.
Actually, right after I posted, I thought about doing something related to the music industry, considering that's another thing I am actually interested in. But the bell was about to ring, so I didn't edit the post. But it's definitely something I'd consider.

Do music piracy and how its fucking with the music industry right nowThis. I can't imagine what about homosexuality you'd be able to sufficiently engage with in 2-3 pages.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. Totally doing music piracy. Thanks for the help!
It is hard to write a good argumentative paper in two or three pages about a serious subject. You'll just barely scratch the surface. I would try for something a little less serious.

Another thing I was thinking about was something admittedly less serious: should people under eighteen be forced to have parental consent to get a piercing or tattoo. It was one of the topics I found whilst desperately searching google....Or, should the age requirement to legally leave school be lowered/raised. These were topics I thought would be less problematic because, to me at least, they have far fewer facets and potential "sides" to them.

So apparently I can't look up information concerning music piracy on the school computers. The school's filter blocked me for "hacking." No kidding. Which is right on par with how things have been going today. Blargh, I will have to think of something else. Thanks anyway, though.
