View Full Version : Hawkins: "Coldplay Should Burn In Hell"

Frank Giaramita
11/11/05, 10:45 PM
Justin Hawkins, frontman of the cheesy, recycled 80's throwback band, The Darkness, had some not so nice things to say about Coldplay's Chris Martin and U2's Bono. Check it out at Ultimate-Guitar.com (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/general_music_news/justin_hawkins_coldplay_should_burn _in_hell.html)

Asked which star should burn in hell, Hawkins replied, “Chris Martin."

I say Justin Hawkins.

im not a huge fan of Chris Martin or Bono, but yeah I agree with Hawkins. It really sucks that there are people out there trying to make an example for today's youth and do positive things for the whole world. I would rather make sub-par, laugh-out-loud, holy-shit-someone-is-paying-this-band-to-play-music music.

Hawkins, the world is laughing AT you. Go fuck yourself and use your opinions more intelligently.

actually i'd say i agree with him. I hate coldplay, and Bono is a goon.

And for anyone who says the Darkness is not a good band, well, they're probably just being closed minded or having fun riding the bandwagon. Go watch a show of theirs and then say that. Then I will give you a bit more credibility.

maybe he is cocky, but who the fuck else is over in Africa spending time fighting AIDS and not partying it up like 90 percent of marquee rockstars do. He has spent his fucking life raising money and doing good in the world. I like Coldplay, but Chris Martin's done shit. And Hawkins, hes got the rockstar attitude, but...hes fighting the wrong fight.

Weird, you've met Bono and Chris Martin? Basing a judgement of one's charachter on the quality of their music, or their speech's at MTV Music Awards shows is about as ignorant as you could get. Unless Bono or Chris Martin have talked to you personally, or unless they open their mouths and say stupid shit like Justin Hawkins just did in this interview, I don't think you're subject to place judgement on either of them.

With that out of the way, it has nothing to do with whether you "like" Coldplay or U2's music, it comes down to this dude (Justin Hawkins) being disrespectful and ignorant enough to openly bash two huge artists in an interview. It's called "professionalism", and I don't care if Jesus H. Christ descends from the heavens and bashes somebody(s) in an interview like Hawkins just did... it's still wrong, regardless of who is doing it and regardless of how "good" or "bad" their music is.

Well, I never said I had met Bono or Chris Martin, and I never said anything about the character of Chris Martin. I think that both Bono and Chris Martin have done much more that can be criticized and commented upon. Just because Justin Hawkins gives what might be a "dissenting" opinion of these guys, doesn't mean he's automatically a douchebag for it.

And the whole thing about professionalism....come on.....half of the stuff on this site is people talking shit about other people. Nobody makes a fuss then.

Somebody tell me how much money Bono made at Live 8.

No really.

You said you "agreed" with Justin Hawkins, which implies you agree with his personal jabs at Martin and Bono, which also implies you've met them or know them to some degree.

ANYBODY who bashes somebody else in a publically released interview, is a "douche bag" by my standards... I don't agree with it.

Also, nobody on this website has a serious image to keep and fans to please like Justin Hawkins does, your comparisons are absurd.

I've seen a a Darkness show...aaannndd they're still not a good band. Hawkins walked off stage like a pouting child because they were taping for MTV and he wasn't happy with the sound in Hard Rock. He's entitled to his opinion about anything and everything, but he should be smarter about who he attacks. Put him and Noel Gallgher (and Liam too for good measure) in a steel cage bitching match to the death, and I'd pay to see it.

Plus, The Joshua Tree is one of the greatest rock records of all time for anyone who didn't know.

Coldplay (Rush of Blood) and U2 (War, Joshua Tree) have put out some of my favorite albums of all time, and I love and respect both bands. I do agree that both Martin and U2 have huge egos...but who the fuck wouldn't when your band is/was the biggest band in the world? They've shown that they can maintain a servant's attitude while having the confidence to accomplish anything they want, and not ever second-guessing themselves. If I sound like a Disney movie, I apologize....but people like this Justin Hawkins fella, who is in a blatant ripoff-of-Queen band with no originality, need to grow up and realize how much these individuals accomplish or have accomplished in their lives.
