View Full Version : England vs. Argentina
Who's going to win?
This is like the fucking match of the year, and I'm going! (sometimes Geneva can be cooler than it sounds). The whole town is at a standstill, they even closed the highway to make it into a car park! I'm sooo excited, it starts in about 6 hours.

I'm assuming you mean soccer aka football..I don't really watch soccer over here because they don't really show it. I like it though, I used to play until I was about 12. It's a great sport..
I thought England always has superior teams? Can someone clue me in on who's better here?

Yeah football/soccer. Well England are a pretty decent team, but I think Argentina are currently 2nd in the world rankings (can someone confirm this?). At least that's what I heard. Also there is a huge huge huge amount of rivalry between the two teams (due to the Falklands war)..so it should be exciting. I wonder if there will be any riots..

what's a soccer game without riots?
Is this the qual. for the world cup?
Norway are facing off against the Czech tonight. It's gonna be tough, but we're gonna go down fighting, blood and guts.

I have never been an England fan. As its only a friendly though, i just wanna see a good game.

You should care about Norway, not some silly friendly.
England have quality in every part of the team, but have possibly the worst international manager money can be wasted on.
I reckon England could steal a win. and King will keep Riquelme under wraps for the entire game, just hopefully he can up his passing from last time haha.
-Robinson has been a bit shakey in last 2 games (made 2 errors which cost Tottenham goals, and wins...) but he's still better than James, and makes absolutely fantastic saves every game, which wll definately be needed today.
-Ferdinand isn't the best defender we could play, either King or Campbell should partner Terry.
-Gerrard isn't a left winger, grow some balls and drop him to the bench, play Cole on the left because he is a winger.
-Crouch is awful, if you want to bring another striker in with aerial presence, why not Beattie? or Bent? Defoe (spurs player or not...) isn't up to England quality atm, but im not complaining that he's in the squad.
-Give Terry the captains armband, Beckham is overrated and not a rolemodel on the pitch, plus playing on the wing doesn't give you the best view of your team, i beleive Central defenders should be captains since they get to see shape and movement of the entire team without compromising their position, plus having a captian in the box helps with setpieces.
the only thing that makes me happy though is that Tottenham can field an entire international England 11 all under the age of 26. and have 5 players in the England squad today.
Robinson, Jenas, Carrick, King and Defoe.

Crouch isn't awful, he's just turning out to be a bit of a one-season wonder
he's not England quality, and he hasn't scored all season... often missing absolute sitters.
he has no reason to be in the england squad

I see your piont, and an outsider for the england world cup squad?....
Kevin Nolan, exellent player, i saw him in the UEFA Cup match on channel 5 the other night and he was outstanding, what do you think of him?
England have been pretty sloppy as of late, and Argentina are a great time. I'm expecting England to lose actually, although I want them to win badly.
he scored against Spurs the other day, so i don't rate him :p...
but seriously, awesome player, and a definate possibility for adding diversity to the england squad, but can't seriously expect regular action ahead of Gerrard and Lampard, possibly 2 of the greatest all-out central midfielders in the game

:madfire:
he's a great player, but i can't see him breaking into the england squad just yet... especially not un der sven - who seems to pick names rather than talent. as proven when he dropped cole just so he could keep gerrard in the team, in an unfamiliar position

I hope he gives Bent a chance, he deserves it, i was about to ask you if you were going but then i realised i doubt you could get to switzerland im two hours haha :D forgot it was away. I wonder what the Argies are like now, i haven't seen them play for aaaaaages
well, Crespo is their star forward, and i don't think he's that great... so i'm not overly concerned there, however Riquelme is worldclass without a doubt.
their defence is a bit of a question mark, with Samuel being the only one i rate highly. since i consider Zannetti as a left winger rather than a full back.
Diemcheilis is a midfield rock, alot like Gattusso.. but scores alot more from set pieces.
They're having a bit of trouble atm i thinkl, they've only won 2 of their last 5 games if i remember rightly.
definately still a threat though, and cheating bunch of fuckers to
EDIT: oh but they do have Saviola as their sub striker, who definately beats the shit out of any of our sub strikers... especially Crouch
I'm gonna watch this game. Argentina will win.
well, we'll take comfort in the fact we can't perform worse than France almost did today against costa rica...

I'm fine, today is going to be a good day, in 1 hour i will watch Argentina - England and the i will watch 2 games, Turkey - Swiss (or Swiss - Turkey, i don't remember) and France - Germany so it will be good.
In france, less and less cars burn each night (last night 500 cars from what i've heard) but everything seems calm down.
How are you Enrique?

I know Convey starts on the national team and he was supposed to go to Everton a season before he went to Reading but that fell throw because of a passport problem or some other nationality problem. i believe Hanemann is like the 3rd or 4th backup, depending on if Tim Howard is even picked for the national team anymore.

Yeah Convey and Hahnemman have been soooooo good for Reading this year, he's a different player this year, he was shit last year, it's almost like a new signing
FUCK YES!!
I have just recovered from last night (I was at the match). Absolutely amazing! I cant even begin to describe the atmosphere, haha, and it was so weird that Geneva just came to a complete standstill because of it. There was lots of racist chants and the usual, but nothing too serious between the fans. I still cannot believe that England made a comeback in such a short space of time. Absolutely amazing. Times like these make me proud to be English.

Haha, in the streets after the match with all the England fans was so amazing. We were chanting everything from 'who won the war?' to 'same old argies, always cheating'. I never get to experience anything like this really living in Switzerland (I did see Man U in Lyon last year though). Haha plus the brits completely overran the town of Geneva, like all in the streets at 2pm before the match with beer bottles alll over the place and flags hanging out of windows, it was quite a sight for the locals.

I left the UK in '95 to go to live in Singapore for 2 years because of my Dad's job, but one thing lead to another and we ended up staying there for 4 years, and then moved here and have been here for the last 6 years. Since I finish school this year I'm gonna move back to go to uni in the UK. Switzerland is really like a second home to me though.

62 goals in 1 season, incredible haha (including like champions league etc...)
atleast that's what Gazzetta on Bravo claims, and i won't argue with them :P

What is it with you and Chelsea?
well Spurs did beat Lyon ;)
but no chance, champions league in a year or 2 though, don't you worry about that :p
i just hate how chelsea bought success - and when people try and claim that they didnt buy success by saying it takes a decent manager to make a team work, not just the best players - ommiting the fact that mourinho's contract is being provided by the same money.
i didnt mind when Arsenal and Man U won all the time, because they earned it over time.

Chelsea are tossers...I'm a Man U fan.
And yes they did buy success, they were never as big as they are now a couple of years ago, but Man U and Arsenal have been very successful teams for a long time..Arsenal are knobs too though.
