abelton with external synths most def... I use logic for me, but abelton is so much not a pain in the ass when it comes to sampling.

I also find Reason pretty hand for beats. Use the Redrum application.

Redrum kicks ass. Reason also has Dr.Rex LoopMachine, some pretty sick beats on there.

The thing is, I'm not a drummer typically, so I don't really use the bazillion Redrum kits that I've downloaded via Reason refills.

Then again, I like Dr. Rex, but if the loop doesn't go with your music anyways, then forget it. Kind of a catch 22, not sure which I prefer.

Yeah, the amount of drum sounds you can get for Redrum is unreal.
I love the some of the spanish guitar loops you can get for Dr. Rex.
