What, no Power Metal? :-)
Vulgar Display gets my vote.

"far beyond driven", although they all kick ass...except CFH. "reinventing the steel" is very underrated.
i'm fortunate enough to have seen them live twice; 1998 & 2000.
RIP Dimebag

You don't like Cowboys From Hell? I think that was one of the first few cd's I ever bought so I had to have listened to it hundreds and hundreds of times before even purchasing the next three. I agree with Far Beyond Driven, though, definitely up there with their best releases. I only chose The Great Southern Trendkill because the title track is my favorite song by Pantera and the album usually falls under the radar (only one track on their Greatest Hits album???).

I had "far beyond driven" first, then "vulgar display of power", then "trendkill" then i FINALLY got around to CFH around 1998...by that point, it sounded pretty dated and pretty craptastic compared to the 3 Pantera albums that came after it.
I love the SONG Cowboys from hell, just not the album. some other good songs on there too, Cemetary Gates of course, Primal Concrete Sledge...but overall it is my least favorite.
yea, Trendkill is the shit, I was lucky enough to see them on that tour in 1998 w/ Machine Head & Coal Chamber...they played about half the album at the show...trendkill, track 2, drag the waters, sandblasted skin, suicide note 2...
Cowboys from Hell for me.
'Allllll shatterrrrrrrrrrrrred!!!!'

how was Machine Head live? that was before The Burning Red so i'd imagine they put on a pretty good show. they were probably my favorite band growing up and i'm glad to see they're putting out quality work again with TTAOE and The Blackening.

honestly dude, I was drinking in the parking lot during Coal Chamber & Machine Head's sets...I was 18 ya know...when you're that age you just take shit for granted and your priorities aren't quite the same as they are in your 20's. at the time, pounding 8 beers was more important than the opening bands' sets.
but yea, they were definitly still supporting "the more things change" so I'm sure they played a lot from that album.
i did get "the blackening" and it does kick ass, i'd like to see them again some time and actually watch their set

i understand why you would say that, i mean you're not quite their target demographic. Their first (commercially successful) album was released three years before you were born and even though you were alive when some of their later albums came out, i'd imagine that infant girls would have no interest in groove/thrash metal.

OMG can you drive yet?? wow, you were 8 years old when Pantera broke up. GTFO and go listen to the jonas brothers.

LOL @ the age card argument. No one can have an opinion of a band who was around before their time right? Everyone who makes a comment about or reference to The Beatles on this website has no idea what they're talking about I guess.
Even bigger luls at the the "target demographic" argument. Pantera's target demographic are rednecks who after a few beers and a few Toby Keith albums are feeling a little roudy.

go ahead and stereotype Pantera fans all you want. at least Pantera were good live. Can't say the same for HRC. and at least Pantera matters and have left a lasting legacy and impact. can't say the same for HRC, who were never more than that shitty opener who I couldn' wait to finish their set. I can't believe I had to sit through them live a few times waiting for good bands to play.

The Jonas Brothers? I'm not that...musically challenged.

I wasn't implying that they're horrible, or anything. They're just not what I'm into. "Thrash metal", or whatever they are..
They're good at what they do, though.

Vulgar Display....the name says it all.
It's funny, they were the first band I listened to this morning, and I had one of those moments where I just couldn't get over how mind-blowing Dimebag's guitar tone was.

One of my favorite bands ever. I went with Vulgar on this just because I think it's more solid all the way through than most of the others. Reinventing The Steel doesn't get enough credit in my opinion. I used to love Far Beyond Driven the best, but Vulgar Display of Power has just grown on me over the years. So, there ya go.
