Since there has been ongoing issues with Sony Music rip protection: Supposedly there is a way to rip copy-protected cds just by holding down the shift key on your keyboard. Read the article right here (http://news.com.com/2100-1025_3-5087875.html).

this is hilarious

Sony can burn in hell for their little spyware stunt

they really don't have anyone good on that label anyways...
Acceptance, Midtown, Coheed And Cambria, The Ataris... etc.

it's because windows 95, 98, xp, etc have the 'auto-run' feature on cds defaulted to 'on' when you install windows or get the computer. all you have to do is turn that off or hold shift when you put a cd into the drive and the programs contained on the cd won't run. after that, it's rip city.

how do you turn off the AutoPlay feature on Windows? I hate when that crap comes on

I've used Nero Audio Ripper and it seems to get around anything and everything.

Haha...every time this topic comes up in a thread I'm sure to mention this method. It's pretty obvious, folks. Disabling autorun prevents the CD from running ANYTHING on insertion.

That, too. Ooooolllld news. This method works with Acceptance, Say Anything (Reissue), whatever has the Copy Control junk on it. Old news, again.

The shift thing works, but I'd just disable autorun.

I guess it just shows how ignorant most of the world is to computer technology.

I remember reading about this when that guy barely figured it out. To disable AutoPlay just go to My Computer and right-click on the CD drive you want and go to Properties. Theres a AutoPlay tab and just click the Select An Action To Perform and just pick Take No Action.
