he got arrested for defying the holocaust, which in austria, is a crime (apparently). it wasn't as if he was arrested in the US.

I don't care how much pride Austria has in their history, not letting people speak their mind is just wrong.

Its not speaking his mind, its propagating racism and anti-semiticsm to even SUGGEST that the holocaust didnt happen. It isnt an "opinion" based issue. It's a fact, it happened and it is a law in their country that he violated.

Doesn't matter. Its a fucked up law. If we punished people for being idiots, 80% of the world would be in prison. Maybe more.

Look, I know you guys think this is out of the ordinary or something, but go to Austria and Germany and other countries in the vicinity and see how it works. They're so embarassed of their history that anyone who dares bring it up will have hell to pay. You see how bad jailtime is in Germany for wearing a swastika or any kind of Nazi parafenalia? You can get 20 years for that.
Sure, it's not just. But look at it this way. Even the fricken' US has some Nazi's, neo-nazi people, white supremecists, and the KKK running around. And we were never even on that side of the war at all! Imagine how many Nazis still must be in Germany. In all reality, if Germany had not attempted to eliminate every trace of the Nazi party, they still could've been a dominant force in that area. (Which would not be good.)
So yeah, I have 2 things to say in conclusion to this.
1) Look at their history. Look how powerful the Nazi party was. If they didn't do these things, Hitler 2.0 might've shown up.
2) You're right, it's not 100% free speech. But guess what, most other countries don't have free speech laws like we have. So for all the people who like to complain about our country, I have something to say to you... you're still in the most free country in the world!
End.
