i'm not really sure what to think of this either.... i fear it becoming too kids orientated. Of course they are kids books... so i guess i cant really complain....

This movie will be freaking awesome.
I had never read the books before, so when I saw this trailer, I went and bought the first book. It brought back a lot of memories of the animated film that I saw when I was little. I thought it was a really great story.
I think this will be really amazing. Much of it is being filmed in the picturesque New Zealand AND Weta Workshops (of TLOTR fame) is doing the creatures and make-up and armor and such.

Okay, I just got back many many things to say.
I had super super high hopes for this movie for very many reasons. Narnia is my favorite series of books, this is my favorite out of the series. First book I ever really liked too. I plan on making movies for a living, and I had a year long project in my film class in which we had to adapt a book to a movie screenplay. This was the book I chose, so I went in with so much excitement and aticipation...
I WAS NOT LET DOWN!! First off, the book was on a 3rd/4th grade reading level I believe. So they managed to make the movie has some epic fight scenes but avoid the gore, without hurting the movie. So it's truley a film for everyone. This is Dinesy at it's fucking best people.:wow:
The acting was great, I adored the cast every last bit. The CG was incredable, and the flow of the movie was ever so smooth.
I'm seeing it again tomorrow night

I don't know why, but I laughed for a super long time when that little troll guy got shot with the arrow as he was about to stab Edmund and he goes "ehhhh!!!!!" I bunch of people in the theater laughed too at the end when they show the close-up of the grown up Peter.
I laughed at both of those and I also laughed really hard when Edmund got stabbed.

seriously tho this movie was really good and more then i imagined. the parts the did change from the book really added to the story and made it that more exciting. I loved the beavers and thought they were hilarious and the fight scenes were very well done also.
one of the only times where the movie is actually better then the book.

awesome movie. not quite "lotr good", but at about the same level of the better harry potter movies. definitely the best non-pixar disney movie in at least 10 years. with a $180 million budget, they're gonna have to make a ton of money to get a sequel approved, but it works great as a single movie if that's not in the cards. the cgi's a little iffy at times but aslan was perfect and the final battle looked great too. my favorite part though was tilda swinton's white witch, possibly the best villain i've ever seen in a fantasy movie.

It was good, but man I found myself ridiculing a lot of it. Two of my friends and myself were just ripping into it every 5 minutes. Maybe it was because we saw Syriana directly before hand and the utter seriousness of that movie made Narnia seem silly. It was fun to watch it though, definite recommend. Now I can't wait for King Kong!

I went to see this movie in theatres the day I came out, and beforehand, I wasn't excited or anxious to see the movie at all. This was due to the fact that I had never been given the opportunity to read the novel, and I wasn't all that aware of what the plot was about. But, I absolutely loved it, and my brother bought it on DVD the day it came out, as well. I've watched it quite a few times since it's release, and I have to say, it gets better and better each time.

The only beef I have about the movie is that it just seems to move so much quicker then the book ever did. The book itself was a quick read, but I don't know, towards the end of the movie everything just seemed to happen a bit too fast. Otherwise, I absolutely love the book and the movie. I need to watch it again.

They need to pull some LOTR filming and just do a bunch of the movies at the same time or else these could be strung over quite a few years, but I guess it's kind of the same situation with Harry Potter.

Poor attempt?
It got high scores in most critical reviews, was one of the best selling movies of the year (I think it was THE biggest in Europe) and comes from a series of 7 books so Disney can easily milk this into the next decade and beyond.
I'd say that is a bit more than a poor "attempt" since it did everything it needed to and then some.

I don't know that I trust Jim Hill. He's all doom and gloom over everything and most of it is rumor based. I can however kind of see the reasoning behind a decision like this. It took them a good chunk of time between Prince Caspian and The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe and thinking of continuing that spaced out trend for several more movies would be tough unless they move quicker with the next film installments or just recast...

The whole Chronicles of Narnia thing is just so-so in my opinion, Lord of the Rings with lots of Jesus stuff and a tad bit on the boring side. The first movie was a lot of build up for a lame battle at the end. Prince Caspian looks a lot better and more interesting than the first one though and it's rated PG-13 so maybe the battles won't be as weak.

Thank you for showing me the light, I think I'm going to go do that right now actually.
You know, you can infer Christian inspired takes on LOTR as well, i.e. Gandalf returning after sacrificing himself against the Balrog. However, that's much more likely to have been inspired by Norse mythology than anything else, as there are loads of Norse stuff in Tolkien's works.
So your logic is that if something is made that appeals to kids that has Christian undertones that tries to subvertly get young minds to alter their beliefs before they are even old enough to understand what's really going on it is superior to other works?

I don't know specifics how they influenced one another, but it's obvious that they have a big influence on each other.
I mean, it's obvious that LOTR has Christian undertones to it and you can find the references, but it's just less obvious then Lewis. I think my dad told me once that they didn't necessary agree with one another religious views or something, I dunno. I should find a book about that and read it sometime.

so this was on tv tonight and I really enjoyed it. But I honestly felt a little disappointed with like, the character development. I know its a movie and they only have so much actual time to get the story in, but I felt like the older brother (peter I think) became like a serious warrior prince overnight. I don't know - I felt like I needed a little more convincing that he sort of matured/grew up a tad bit more once he fought in battle. Meh - maybe I'm being silly but other than that I thought it was great.
