I find Bright Eyes to be a better and more capable band because throughout the albums Fevers and Mirrors, Lifted, I'm Wide Awake It's Morning, Digital Ash In A Digital Urn, and Cassadaga, Conor Oberst and co. have utitlized more sounds and genres, and this experimentation makes them a more open-minded and talented artist because they aren't rehashing one dead sound repeatedly. It shows progression and maturity. Conor Oberst has specifically demonstrated his prowess in lyrical abilities. While the themes are closer to generic and generally about himself, self-loathing, addiction, love, love lost and the like, his grand use of literary techniques and stylings have proven him a great lyricist. He moves away from himself and to other political and social issues in the later albums, which he still does well, admittedly it conveys a very different tone, but it's done well nonetheless.

As for Alkaline Trio, they have witty one-liners and catchy guitar hooks, but don't show any signs of maturity and innovation within themselves as a band. It's been done before and it's been done better. Bright Eyes at least expands and challenges themselves with their music.

That is why i think that Bright Eyes, in a nutshell, is a better band and should be getting more votes than Alkaline Trio, and while i understand the nostalgic reasons for voting for Alkaline Trio, i have not seen, heard, or witnessed in any way how Alkaline Trio is a better band than Bright Eyes.

I'm not a huge fan of newer Alkaline Trio but they have enough classics that they deserve to win. Alkaline Trio is one of the best from their genre, where Bright Eyes is terrible when compared to a band from their same genre like Neutral Milk Hotel.
