The Alt. Press "end of the year (http://www.altpress.com/surveys/13.htm)" survey is still up for voting (and of course we'd still love your consideration for some of the awards). But I'm curious what everyone is putting down for "album" and "band" of 2005?

Thrice - Vheissu
Steve Henderson

Album = Circa Survive - Juturna

(before you ridicule, I say this because they blew up this year and really opened up the door for better music to be played on the radio and MTV - whether it is happening or not just yet, but whatever).

everyone will hate me for saying this, but fall out boy - from under the cork tree, is my album of the year. here is my justification: in all honesty i liked futct when it first came out i liked it, but by no means loved it in early september if you had asked me what my album of the year was, i would have said nightmare of you, most definitely, futct probably wouldve been around the 4 or 5 spot. but shortly thereafter events conspired which made me relate to this album and for that reason, it was propelled to my album of the year.

album, i'll have to say "Volcano" to me. Band for me would also be Gatsby, I just got like a huge resurgence to get into them this year. I forget if this thread is for what we think for ourselves or what we think in terms of the entire music industry thing. oh well. in terms of the industry, fall out boy and my chemical romance are the bands and most likely the two albums by those bands are the albums of the year.
album of the year: the starting line- based on a true story (go buy this record now.)
band of the year - undecided.
oh and socratic - lunch for the sky--very underrated. its great.
Gatsby's American Dream. Band and Album.

how are voting for band of the year and album of the year different? shouldn't the best band of the year be the band that put out the best album of the year? anyway, jack's mannequin should win for both. coheed could win for both. the mars volta could win for both.

i'd have to say vheissu though because that's made the most recent impact on me
as for band? maybe fall out boy just because at the beginning of the year, they were headlining chain reaction...now they're headlining arena tours...and no matter what people think of them...that's amazing.

It is a rip off of Tell All Your Friends, but so what, its still a pretty decent album. There is nothing more subjective than someone's favorite album of the year.

TBS put out the same cd 3 years ago hmmmmmm i am thinking tell all your friends is one of the best cds in the last 5 years but HIPV sounds nothing like it. HIPV puts on a great show and are some of the nicest guys you will ever meet. i am ashamed to say that i live in the same county as you now what are you a name taken hater too?

There's more to a band than just the albums they put out. If you don't realize that, you have a serious problem.
Anyway, Band of the Year: Circa Survive because not only did they put out one of the best albums of the year, but they put on an amazing show and are super nice dudes.
Album of the Year: Minus the Bear - Menos El Osos, the only reason these guys didn't make band of the year is because their live show isn't that impressive, still an amazing band, though.

I didn't say I didn't like it, I'm just saying I am just waiting for them to break up at any moment. In fact, I liked quite a few songs from it. It's just that news about them is barely covered here anymore. Maybe there is no news to report or something. And they never send out any info either, so I guess it works both ways. Argh. I just miss Finch is all.
Can't be too sad though. Luckily there's BRAND NEW!
