I recently started listening to The Beta Band (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beta_Band). After a quick search here, it seems like they're virtually unknown on this website (and in the United States, for that matter), so I thought I would talk about them a little bit.

They're a Scottish group that broke up in 2004. I was introduced to them by a friend who suggested that I get The Best of the Beta Band compilation. I immediately fell in love, so I also purchased their Three EPs compilation, which was also suggested to me by a friend.

Their sound is really difficult to describe. At times, they kind of remind me of Radiohead. The track "Dr. Baker", for example, reminds me of Radiohead's "Morning Bell", or maybe another Radiohead song that I can't quite place right now. "Inner Meet Me" also vaguely reminds me of Radiohead when it reaches its full swing. However, none of the Radioheadish vibe I'm getting is overwhelming, and I'm making a comparison in a good way, not a "rip-off" sort of way. The way they use acoustic guitars and sound effects reminds me a lot of Grandaddy.

Some of their tracks are a little too trip hop or downtempo for my taste, but overall, I really love their sound. Check em out :-).

Tracks I recommend listening to:
Inner Meet Me
Dr. Baker
Dry the Rain
Squares

Does anyone else listen to them?

I'm thinking of trying to do a cover of Inner Meet Me or Dr. Baker.
