They weren't a cover band, they just made it big off of a cover song. That sucks because a lot of their music was much better than that. Oh well.

Underrated band. People need to give them a chance and ignore their Michael Jackson cover. I haven't listened to their second disc very much, but their first one wasn't bad.

I think they have been dropped for a while. I saw them back in August and they said their cd was gonna come out as soon as they could find a label who would put it out.
And I agree that their first cd was good. I didn't listen to the 2nd cd. And I did like Smooth Criminal.

I have news for you, they already "made it" a shitload farther than 85% of the bands that people around here rant and rave about ever will. Their first album was actually pretty good.

Ironic. I just listened to some of their stuff yesterday, for the first time in a few years. They were pretty cool.

Their whole band is super talented. I really liked that 'movies' song and the one they put in American Pie 2. I was always curious as to how you sign a record deal, and you can never leave your contract and are forced to uphold it, but when a label decides they don't care about you anymore, they just tear up your contract and show you the door.....
FeynmanWannabe
11/19/05, 03:42 PM
Well, look at it this way: at least they're no longer tied to Geffen.

11/19/05, 03:42 PM
they arn't bad, i enjoyed both their cd's for a while. I would expect them to sign with another label sometime soon.

11/19/05, 03:59 PM
this is something postive Geffen is the worst label ever and now this means they can get on a good label and put out a cd like their first(which is underrated)
LostSymphonies
11/19/05, 04:10 PM
This band was definitely very underrated. They are very good musicians especially their bass player, it's shame really when a band like this gets dropped. another reason geffen fucking sucks
timmysavedlatin
11/19/05, 04:11 PM
ataris broke mainstream the same way alien ant farm did. they weren't the best band in the world, but if you listen to a couple songs off their newer cd, they were damn good musicians.
I actually thought that they did break up... after truANT they never released anything after that.
I liked them, too. I remember playing that Tony Hawk game and their song "Wish" was in it.

11/19/05, 04:39 PM
Fuck you retards saying this is good. Anyone that says that never heard all albums all the way through, and DEFINITELY never saw them live. Fucking intense live show. Go eat a bag of dicks, you haters.

I met them once at a radio festival. Very, very nice guys. I wasn't a big fan of their albums, but then again, I never gave them a real good listen... maybe I should someday soon. They are pretty good live, though; saw them on Halloween with 311 in '03.

Paul was obviously joking with the title... Don't take it all so seriously guys.
I liked that 'Movies' song, and the one with the video where they crashed the BET awards.

11/19/05, 04:56 PM
These guys are definitely underrated... I started listening to them back on their old indie Greatest Hits album... they just got written off cuz of Smooth Criminal...
I don't know about the US, but Glow from TruANT was a fairly big single here in New Zealand.
their new record Third Draft is okay... haven't given it a decent listen yet...
I saw a great interview with Dryden a year or two ago talking very frankly about the whole smooth criminal situation and what not... can't remember where.. but it was more or less him talking about they didn't want to release it as a single, but some radio stations started playing it so the record company pumped it... like, he was grateful for the opportunities that the song opened up for them, but it was a double edged sword and pretty much killed them credibility wise.
and for the record, the first video for Movies was awesome... one of the best performance videos ever... the 2nd version in the movie theatre kinda sucked
They got dropped because they refused to rerecord their new CD to add a "hit song"
So dumb.

the song on THPS was pretty decent......when did Papa Roach turn metalcore? That shit needs to be dropped right away.

YES! Welcome to the internets.

yea they got dropped...but they are offering their new album FOR FREE in its entirety at "a website" Dryden (the lead singer) says he wants people to just have the music. His family has enough food on the table. And Alien Ant Farm is awesome...how could you not appreciate their second release TRuant. Ignorance

Geffen has dropped Alien Ant Farm.
Um, they did one cover song over the course of two (three, if their new album doesn't have any) albums. I don't see you calling The Ataris a cover band.

this isn't good news. they weren't getting the support they needed to begin with.
they were the first and only rock band to play in my town. literally.

Okay. I'm passionate about this. I own over 400 cds, and ANThology (their first cd) is easily in my top ten favorite, if not top five of all time. Smooth Criminal is the worst song on the cd, and people write them off before hearing the entire album. Great album. Great band. 'Tis a shame.

"cover bands never make it"
im sure someone beat me to the punch, but aaf made a fucking shitload of money. it might be 89% off of that single, but 'anthology" was a solid record. courage and attitude are great fucking songs.
I thought I read they were in the studio and were getting ready to release their follow up to TruANT. Oh well, maybe they're free agents now or something.
It's complete. They are selling it at live shows. I know more.... but I've been sworn to secrecy, and secrecy I shall keep.
Oh, and is it ironic that "cover bands never make it", yet a higher-up at Geffen Records is from a band that got big off of a cover (Limp Bizkit)?

Uhhhh yeah these guys were terrible, but to call them a "cover band" because they released a cover song as a single is rather ridiculous.

I agree with you, Who doesnt like Alien ant farm, they are a great live band. They are not a cover band! it was kinda lame how they only got famous with that song, If u didnt know they released a video for movies then for smooth criminal and they got huge so they made a diffrent video for movies The label made them go in a diffrent direction than the first movies video which was excellent. Truant was not as good as Anthology but They are still a good band, And Tate by the way, THe lead singer of the spill canvas sounds exactly like AAF a couple guys do. But AAF doesnt sound like anybody people sound like him

While I do think they are a good band, you are right about the second item.

Amen.
Anyone that knows this band only from Smooth Criminal needs to do some homework. They have had a bunch of good songs. Their most recent album wasn't radio friendly enough so they got dropped? Fuck that, and seriously, fuck anyone that cheers when a band gets dropped. Whether you like them or not, don't be an ass and take comfort in someone else's misery.
i thought the first album was pretty good when it came out.
the second one i got but never really paid any attention to.
oh well.

i saw them live about 2 months ago and they were one of the best live bands i have ever seen. their musicianship is seriously crazy.

i just saw them tonight with 311 and let me tell you they are one talented group of musicians...im a serious musician so i know when theres great musicianship at a show...and if you listen to them their songs really can grow on you...for example, listen to the song 'attitude' and then tell me you dont like it...im sure theyll find some other alternative to geffen.

Isn't the only reason they disappeared for so long after the MJ cover because a bus accident almost killed their singer? Or it did kill one of them? I don't remember but I think that if it weren't for the accident when they were on the rise, they could have been big. And they crash awards shows!

They got into a crash and a few of them got injured. I think the lead singer broke his neck. I saw them on their first tour back and they were fucking amazing...I have so much respect for these guys.
I had totally forgot about them, and that was just too good. i always disliked this bad, so much. I hope they stop making music.

Actually, had you read the replies, quite a few people here seem to care, lots of positive responses for this band. And you seem to care, you wasted your time posting on this.
And I love how Uncle Rico is telling kids what's up. I'd give you lots of scene points if I could man, but they are gone. You rule.

Hell yes. Thank you for pointing that out - if you don't like them, why post in the thread? either way, it is kind of insensitive to relish the fact that these guys lives just got a little worse (assuming they didn't want to go at all).
