Yellowcard (http://www.yellowcardrock.com)'s new album will employ "user-friendly copyright protection." As will all EMI releases in 2006. After the Sony debacle how any label or band can allow this to happen is beyond me. Record sales are going to be hurt, big time from the idiodic business decisions of major labels.

Ps: I recommend everyone install something like this: http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2 on your computer. I'm against illegal-downloading without purchasing; but I'm more against invasions into personal computers.

sadly a lot more albums have copy-protection than people realize. what's funny though is that it's so easy to get around it's just ridiculous and pointless. luckily I use a mac and no one has created any copy protection scheme that works on there. copy protection will never work until the record companies control both the software and the hardware.

It should say idiotic business decisions by major labels.... and Yellowcard. That is funny though. It's like Yellowcard and their label are doing everything in their power to have you not buy their CD.

Maybe Harper should put a "user friendly counter" on all Takeover Bands' Cd's to show how many albums YC sells
what?

if they have a pair they will not let emi release their cd at all
does anyone know what this will do for tooth and nail/solid state? they are part of emi i believe.

A nice little app displaying "lights and sounds" album sales, seeing how if they never got rid of Ben and released their stuff under Takeover, the drm sh*t probably wouldn't be a problem
Im pretty sure the album would still be released on EMI. Id say they have bigger distribution...or maybe I just still have no idea what your talking about.

It's not even worth buying now.
The founding member leaves, and then they add protection to the cd that doesn't allow me to move MY PROPERTY that I PAID FOR to my computer, an mp3 player, or make a back-up copy.
Pure bullshit.

If they're claiming that this form of copyright protection will be "user friendly", then obviously EMI have made steps to improve on Sony's technology. Why don't you just wait to see how it works before you start bashing the fuck out of it?
Also, for the record, copy protection hasn't really impeded record sales that much. The following records all had the technology on their discs:
Alkaline Trio - Crimson (in the UK)
Foo Fighters - In Your Honour
Gorillaz - Demon Days (600,000+ copies in the USA)
Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane
Massive Attack - 100th Window
Radiohead - Hail To The Thief (932,000+ copies in the USA)
Those are all pretty successful records, wouldn't you say? You make Copy Protection seem like a major crutch on the industry, when it's simply a minor inconvenience to certain people. Chill out.

I own the property (the disc), so why am I not to back it up or rip it to my computer?

Yeah, everyone should download Peerguardian.
& record sales are gonna be hurt from this whole ben situation. & now they're digging themselves further down by giving us yet another reason not to buy the cd. Nice.

Some random guy will come up with some anti-copy protection software that will not allow the software to install from the CD. It should be illegal. The record companies make enough money as it is, why don't they just let things be?

just another reason i will not be buying this cd, or anything that has to do with yellowcard. it's like their actively trying to have everybody hate them.

Im confused with what exactly is going on here...so the new Yellowcard cd can be put onto the computer but it will install a program for the label to watch and see what you do with the music once its on the computer?

Im confused? So is this saying that the new Yellowcard cd can be put onto a computer but when you do it installs a program so that the label can monitor what you do after you load the cd onto the computer?

I've got a one up on you: I run a Mac and I live in Canada where, unless something has happened very recently, it is not illegal to use P2P file sharing programs. Cha-Ching!
