Hahaha, they are also in the process of creating Lestat the musical, from all Anne Rice's books, as well as Pompeii: The Musical.

Ditto, I'm obsessed with musicals, I wish this was coming to New York. Unfortunately it's going from Toronto to London.

A.R. Rahman is doing the music, and he's a radical Indian composer who also did Bombay Dreams. They've also got a Finnish music group on board. So Indian and Finnish inspiration fused with fantasy folklore. Should be interesting.

Typically, musicals are fairly acceptable. But taking a fantasy novel and then adding a bunch of songs isn't really my idea of a good time. Even though I live close enough to see it, I'm definitely not going to.

I read an interview (http://www.lotr.com/printHTML.php?file=interview.html) with the producer that said characters weren't going to be singing songs revealing their emotions and whatnot, it was more going to be different races singing in their own tune progressively throughout the show.

The crazy part is that they're going to have all the monsters and everything on stage. The giant spider is supposed to take up the whole 40 ft stage and the battle of Helm's Deep is supposed to be an enormous number. Where do you even begin with that shit?

i love lord of the rings... and i do like some musicals (call me a nerd, i dont care! haha.) but i am not sure about making lord of the rings a musical... it just doesnt sound like it would go over too well...

seeing as i really love theatre and musicals, ill take the hour and a half drive to see this. id love to see how they are going to do the Ents, among a bunch of other things.
