Sufjan Stevens' Illinois will be re-pressed on a double-vinyl, double-gatefold LP version for release on November 23rd. Don't want to wait? Buy it now from the label's website (http://www.asthmatickitty.com/main.php). This release features new cover art, with a trio of balloons filling in for Superman or a blank space (depending on when you bought the CD).

I thought you didn't care about the "shit" that Pitchfork recommends?

Where did you come up with that? Honestly, do you read the actual words I write or just make up what you think I mean?

hahaha, you didnt change one word from the pitchfork news.

As pictured above, the vinyl Illinois (or Vinyllinois, if you’re cool) features new cover art, with a trio of balloons (John Wayne Gacy’s?!) filling in for Superman or a blank space, depending on when you bought the CD (http://pitchforkmedia.com/news/05-07/05.shtml)

I knew somebody would say it. ::shakes head:: Jason recognizes that a lot of his visitors listen to Sufjan, so he reports on it. Same with a lot of musicians. Maybe he doesn't even listen to a lot of it, but we do. So thank you Tate for including things like this. Even though I already knew about this, I still appreciate it.

Your own words: And I'd rather listen to anything besides what they recommend on that website.

But the fact that he even got this news from off of Pitchfork, after bashing them.

I understand that. If you read my posts, I wasn't a fan of the zine vs. zine crap, either. Still, it takes some balls to post it for your viewers the day after that drama. He's placing the visitors above his own opinions. Gotta respect that at least a tad.

I basically would, but that doesn't mean I think it's "shit," nor does it mean I refuse to post about them. I still post about Weezer, From First to Last, and Yellowcard while I don't particularly like or want to listen to their music. There should (and I try to maintain) a seperation between what I like and what I post about.

But the fact that he even got this news from off of Pitchfork, after bashing them.

What about that fact? My distaste for how they write their reviews and generally handle themselves doesn't void the validity of news.

Just seems hypocritical is all. You didn't even list Pitchfork as your source.

Sufjan is highly overrated. Half his album is just like, instrumental buildup.

:blah: Mars Volta anyone?

If you remove the 8 instrumental tracks (why would you though, they're gorgeous) you still have 14 tracks..all of which are fantastic. Not overrated by any means.

The right attitude, ladies & gents. No offense, Jason, but I agree with the person who said you probably should have credited them. Anyway...I think everyone's forgetting the point of this post...new Sufjan!:woot:

Illinoise or the vinyl? If you don't have Illinoise yet, go buy it...it's well worth the money. Plus, it's only $10 on his label's website. http://www.asthmatickitty.com/main.php

For all those disenchanted with Dashboard and Death Cab, I think you'd really love Sufjan. He also puts on one of the best live shows around... This is my mini-review of his show at the Bowery Ballroom this August:

It was the most completely immersive concert experience of the year. Aside from his perfect pitch, impeccable guitar playing skills, and stop-on-a-dime-tight nine person ensemble, Sufjan put on a Performance, one replete with an overture, a cheerleader wardrobe for the entire cast, bonifide Cheers introducing many of the songs, and the level of musicianship you would expect from trained broadway vocalists and orchestras. Oh, did I mention that everyone was too mesmerized/afraid to sing along during the acoustic numbers? The kind of silence you expect at carnegie hall was present (and, for that reason, amplified) at Bowery-fucking-Ballroom.
