View Full Version : Bands who never lived up to that first song....

Any bands who you were blown away by upon first hearing a song... Then for you they never managed to outdo that song?

For me - Funeral For a Friend and 'This Year's Most Open Heartbreak'

It just came on shuffle which made me think about it haha.

Also that doesn't necessarily mean you don't like the band - FFAF are alright!

Completely agree. That was the first song I ever heard by them. Their Ep's were so good. The albums are alright, but haven't been the same for me.

If you think This Year's... is better than Escape Artists Never Die - it's your opinion fair enough - but YOU'RE WRONG.

Two songs from each of Between Order and Four Ways ended up on Casually Dressed though.

this one will be random
but Ashley Parker Angel with Let U Go. I mean, it was a decently good pop song in my opinion and like, I mean he had a freaking show on MTV getting everyone all hyped up about him making his "come back." Some come back...for about 5 seconds? What happened??

For me, You Me & Everyone We Know. The first song I heard was Livin Th' Dream and holy shit, I was absolutely blown away. Don't get me wrong, their other songs and their newest EP are good, but they haven't topped Livin Th' Dream yet for me.

You should probably listen again. They have a few catchy ones.

For me though...

The first song I ever heard by The Weakerthans was Left and Leaving. I haven't heard anything better than that yet.

"Planning a Prison Break" by TREOS. This song encompasses everything this band ever did musically and does it best. And the modulation at the end, OMG I love that moment.

Really?

That sucks. Nothing else did it for you?

It doesn't seem like Wacko Jacko is that dissimilar from their other material, especially on the self titled and doppelganger

Walls is one of my least favorite Emery songs from their debut.

That song is too structured.
It's a great opener but the rest of the album kills it.

This thread isn't about a band's actual first song, but rather the first song that YOU heard from an artist, and how the rest of their catalog didn't live up to that first awesome song you heard by them.

Oh my god, hell yea. Folie a Deux has to be their best Cd yet. With all the great collaberations with label mates and even Lil wayne, its eccetricness leaves you feeling like no 2 songs are the same. Each song is a new unique experience

But since this isnt a fall out boy thread, my song would have to be A) Falling Down by Atreyu, because its one of their only songs where they SING not do that weird throat scream thing, B) The Diary of Jane- Breaking Benjamin- i love Breaking Benjamin but that song was by far their BEST EVER nothing can ever beat it

I've listened to all of Commit This To Memory, and there are only like three or four tracks off it that I like, and none of them stuck with me like My Favorite Accident did. I have not listened to the rest of I Am The Movie or their most recent one though, so maybe I haven't given them a fair enough chance yet.

Ya commit this to memory really only has a few really strong tracks, but I believe "Time Turned Fragile" maybe their best song right next to "My Favorite Accident".

I Am The Movie is by far their best, I feel they had a real great and engaging sound that just got completely watered down in CTM and was sorta resurrected a little bit in a new form in Even If It Kills Me.
