I'm just glad that the right games one in many of the catagories. While I still think it's silly that unreleased games are nominated for catagories, at least games are being rewarded for quality rather than how much hype they get. RE4, Lumines, Guitar Hero... all three excellent games, play them if you haven't yet. I'm not sure that the ceremony can recover from the bad reactions its gotten from gamers in the past, but it's definitely a step in the right direction.

My big beef with it last year was something like this. Tony Hawk won best sports game and Madden won game of the year. So madden was the best game released of all games, btu tony hawk was a better sports game than it? The though process makes my head asplode

Eh, I've seen things like that before in other competitions. What it essentially means is that the game that wins ______ of the Year is then excluded from any similar catagories which might be more specific. Actually, I think that may have happened again this year... I think RE4 may have also been nominated for Best Action Game. It's a little odd, but it's so that one game isn't awarded over and over again (though WoW ended up with four awards, yikes).

I really like the seperation of team and individual sports. I hope that magazines/websites start using a system like that when they issue end of year lists.
