we still had to give up hanley ramirez though, who has been the #1 prospect in the farm system for like the past 2-3 years. for some reason, the jeff bagwell/larry anderson trade immediately came to mind when i heard about this. i dunno. still don't know how i feel about it.

wonderful. beckett, papelbon, lester will be the best 1-2-3 for next 5 years or so and hopefully longer(once lester gets called up).

i think renteria had an uncharacteristic season and will bounce back. If he plays well, there wasnt much room for Hanley because they seem sold on Pedroia at 2b.

i heard about them trying to convert hanley to centerfield awhile ago so there wouldn't be a need to resign damon. guess it wasn't true. i agree with what you said about renteria though. he's too good of a player to have another season like he did.

Im not really concerned about losing Ramirez. He wasnt too good in AAA and there was no way that he would have lived up to his potential in Boston. He was too hyped up and there would have been too much pressure on him. But giving up Ramirez and Sanchez plus 1 minor leaguer for Josh Beckett and Lowell is a great deal. Hell, i wouldnt have minded if they threw Shoppach into the deal also. Beckett is a proven ML pitcher. He's 25, has already proven that he can pitch under pressure, and should be a great pitchers for awhile. I think this is a steal for the Red Sox

someone has been resding SoSH. I agree with this post to the T. Ramirez will be good, but he's not the next nomar. He could be an all-star SS, but Beckett will be better. Im sooooooo glad we kept Lester. His AA numbers are outstanding. Shoppach can stay or go, doesnt matter to me. I think other teams value him more. Lowell, Shoppach trade? Spin them to the Twins for baker and romero? Maybe Lohse?

Happy thanksgiving!

p.s. Fuck Bowden and Beattie, promote the group of 4! SoSH says Lajoie was the head man on this deal

'Manny is not returning to Boston,' Ortiz says

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- One of baseball's most fearsome offensive duos -- the Boston Red Sox's David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez -- appears to be history.

According to Ortiz, "Manny is not returning to Boston."

"Manny is living through a difficult situation [in Boston] that only he and his family know, and he no longer wants to play there," said Ortiz after arriving early Monday in the Dominican Republic.

Ramirez has asked for a trade in each of his five seasons with the Red Sox, but apparently this one is definite.

"I spoke with him last week before he left for Brazil and he told me that he wants to go to a team in the West," Ortiz, the Red Sox's designated hitter, said.

Ramirez has three years worth $160 million remaining on his contract with the Red Sox. Because of his status as a player with 10 seasons in the major leagues and five with the same team, he is allowed to approve any trade.

"I found out that that they are doing everything possible to trade him," Ortiz said.

The Los Angeles Angeles of Anaheim have been named as a possible destination for Ramirez, as well as the New York Mets.

Send him to Anaheim and make sure the Ervin Santana comes to Boston in the deal, make our pitching younger and better again.

I would think if Manny is headed west, Wells would be too. In that case we could get a whole bunch of talent from Anaheim, San Diego, and even Arizona. It'll be interesting to see what deal we could get out of this, but the idea of Manny and Ortiz not being together after they're 04 and 05 runs brings a tear. But, this is baseball and in order to secure this team as a contender for the future, we may have to make this deal to become younger and more talented in all aspects, not just hitting.

I don't care for Manny in Anaheim, I just don't want to hear any of his bitching.

Also, if Glaus is some how apart of this, do we trade Lowell, or stick Youk on the bench again as a permanent back-up? I want Youk and his .400 OBP to be starting on a corner, but if we can get Glaus and a Lowell of 2004, itll be hard to say he should start.

I still think we should trade Lowell. He is worth some value right now.

Mike had great trading value at the end of the 2004 season, Florida should've parted with him then.

Teams will still want him thinking 05 was a fluke. But if we get half way through 06 and he is still sucking, no one will want him. Trade now while teams still need a 3B.

We trade Lowell if what Minnesota has been rumored to give up is true. That much relief pitching for Lowell, i do that and then bring Mueller back. And if Wells wants to go to San Diego, I say trade him and bring back Dave Roberts as out center fielder if we cant sign Damon. I know thats all wishful thinking, but I'd love to see it happen.

I was surprised when the Sox got Beckett. Here I thought this would be a "rebuilding" year for them. He's a damn good pitcher. But everyone thinks the Sox are already a better team... the offseason has even begun. Don't think the Yanks will sleep on this. They'll pull a move out of their ass like almost every year. Lets just hope this one doesn't flop.

NetNerdsRevenge

Giving up 3 unproven prospects who might never amount to anything for a worls series MVP pitcher whos only 25 isnt a good trade? The red sox pitching gets younger and better with this trade. Beckett is only like 3 or 4 months older than Paplebon i think. If Beckett signs an extension then the pitching will be good for awhile. Beckett, Paplebon, Lester will make the rotation and then Hansen and Delcarmen will be the main guys in the bullpen.

I am a Yankees fan and I am scared of this trade. As all Yanks fans should be. Becket is young and I guarantee he'll make most of his starts next season. If he is 100% he will have his best season yet. Becket is better than any pitcher on the Yankees staff right now.

Still, what would it take to get Dunn?

I think if we were to make a deal with the Reds, Lester would have to be in there somewhere. Im not sure of their financial situation, but I'm thinking they would go with cheap prospects instead of a some what $ Clement. I wouldn’t make that trade. Lester is going to be a stud and right now should be untouchable. Overbay for Clement works in my view, although I want Youks to start (at least 300-400 Ab‘s) somewhere this season.
