I know this is a shot in the dark, but in some songs, the singing somewhat sounds like chanting, I'm not very "musically" inclined, so I'm not sure if this has a specific name.

For example, the first song, Detroit, in the first few seconds of the song it goes, "Woahh Ohhhhh, We don't need maps, when we know where the sidewalk cracks" and it sounds kinda like crowd chanting or something, i'm not even too sure how to describe it. What I'm wondering is, is there a name for this or something? I like how it sounds, but have no idea if it's even anything at all, or just there for the hell of it.

Haha, thanks for the quick response. I just listen to the music and don't know anything about vocals or anything, I just listen to it haha.

Double fail. They're usually called "gang vocals".

Haha, another dumb question, but are there any songs that focus on "gang vocals"? I'm a music nub.

It's not something you'll hear entire songs sung with, it's just a technique used by a lot of bands, mainly pop-punk. Bands like New Found Glory, Four Year Strong, Set Your Goals, etc use them quite a bit.

This band In Due Time did a song where the entire thing was gang vocals.

It was terrible.

Some of their songs feature gang vocals, but either way they're a great band.
