Sophmore in HS.

im entering the 4th MP of my soph year. Last year I messed up big time and ended with about a 2.8 GPA. This year the first marking period I had a 2.6 before kicking myself into shape last MP with about a 3.6. I'm sitting here right now with about a 3.0 for the year and a 2.95 overall. Hopefully i continue this upward trend and end next year at or about a 3.1 or 3.2 or maybe higher. I take Honors English and Im taking it again next year. My problem is 100% studying. I get so easily distracted i just can't get good study time in for myself. I just want to go to a good college so bad. I've wanted to go to USC my whole life but I've realized at this point that's out of the question most likely.

update: if I can get the pre req, i might be taking AP government next year, i think this would help both my GPA and course workload.

so here's my profile (projected):
White Male
NJ
3.2 GPA (1 honors course)
lets say pretty good SATS since i took it already in 7th grade and got like 1300 and i'm much smarter now. So lets say I get 680 700 690 or something

EC's:
4 years summer camp counselor
4 years HS rec basketball
TVP oscar nomination (school award program)
Job at bagel place 2 years
Mens volleyball club 3 years

chances for:
villanova
syracuse
U of Pitt
rutgers
penn state
maryland
seton hall
Arizona state
U of arizona
Uconn
Boston U
indiana bloomington
memphis
USC
ohio state

This is silly, you're a sophomore. Go read a book instead.

All the schools you listed are really a crapshoot. I know people who have been nearly identical on paper and one gets accepted and the other rejected.

You'll get into Rutgers no doubt since you're from NJ. I actually go to Maryland and I still can't figure out if it's hard or not to get in here. They do love people from NJ here so you have a chance as long as you're not going for business or engineering, I think as long as you have over a 3.0 they'll consider you. I had a 4.3/4 GPA in high school and got waitlisted at Villanova and eventually rejected. Boston and USC are hard to get into. The other ones are just a big maybe. You should check out TCNJ and University of Delaware, those are both really good schools.

and yeah, I didn't start worrying about colleges until the summer before senior year, worrying now won't really do anything for you. Especially since admission standards change so much from year to year. I was well above the admissions criteria for Villanova for the class of 2005, but apparently not good enough for 2006

I didn't think about it until my 2nd semester in junior year. I would worry more about your GPA and grades right now than where your going to school in 2.5 years. Focus on school, get good grades, and you'll eventaully figure it all out. If you don't, there is nothing wrong with a junior college.

USC is on a completely different level from most of the schools on that list. BU and UMD are about the same I'd say.

jesus, you're what, 15? I didn't worry about college until the end of junior year.

Enjoy life man...do well in school and everything will fall into place.

Kids are growing up so fast these days...Just focus on your studies, and don't nitpick the admission criteria.

I think that it's good that you are actually worrying about college now, so you have an idea of things ahead of time. I mean, I wish that I did that.. I don't know where the hell I'm going to college. But everyone else is right in telling you that you should focus on your studies.

These days, us kids have to grow up fast because there is so much competition. It's hard.
