I think that he really will carry the NHL back to prominence it is just crazy to watch him. He really is Gretzky-esque.

And if you cant watch Pittsburgh go watch Washington. Ovechkin is every bit as good as Crosby

Nope. As much as I obsess over the Penguins, Ovechkin is the better player right now. Give it two years and Crosby should be better.

You've got to remember... Crosby has some good players on his team to work with. Lemieux, Leclair, Recchi, Palffy.... not too shabby of a team to play with.

Who does Ovechkin have to play with? Chris Clark is second on the team in scoring with 5 goals. Jeff Halpern leads the team in assists with 12, but he's only got 1 goal. And with 13 points, he's second on the team. It's not until the 6th player on the Penguins lineup that you find another 13 pointer (Leclair).

Just something to think about.

(PS - Phaneuf is a hell of a rookie, too)

Another way to think of it is that with all that talent around him he has basically shined above them.

Crosby is going to be embarrased by the league. He is a diver. Some guy needs to lay him out to set him straight.

I dunno, you can ask any coach and they'll tell you just keep your legs moving when you're obstructed and you'll go down without diving, whether or not it looks like it. So watch when penalties are called that involve him and watch his legs. I've only seen one actual dive.

Hatcher tried to. And all Crosby did was come back with 2 goals, including the game winner.

This will never happen because:

A) This is the leauges golden child. A hard hit and you are going to be in deep shit. It is MJ all over again. You can't touch the kid.

B)That isn't the NHL anymore. Toughness has been sucked out. Hitting is frowned upon. Fighting is a sin. This isn't the same NHL where if you were being a douche bag you got laid out. I can barely watch the new NHL after loving the hard hitting grinding style before hand. I think the Trap was bad for the NHL but I don't think this is the answer. Taking out pure toughness. It is just sad.

It doesn't take it out, it just makes it less effective because you'll get called for it more often. It's a necessary evil.

Yes, but by that logic, Ovechkin has "shined above" his team by a much greater margin than Crosby has.

Yeah. Crosby was a huge boost for me to watch hockey again. He really is the future.

the league thinks he's too much of an asset like everyone here...they wouldn't dare try and punish King Crosby...

ya I often think Ovechkin will be the better player. Right now, Ovechkin leads all rookies in points...and when you consider what he has to work with (sorry Caps fans)...that's pretty good. I saw this crosby goal the other day where mario did a spin around pass and crosby just dunked it in...I think lemieux has more talent in his left pinky than most the players on the Caps combined (again sorry)...when you have players like that, it really makes the rookie stand out.

Ovechkin is a show on his own. He can do everything. Not only can he score incredible goals and set up plays, he isn't afraid of anything/anyone.

ya I see him...he just goes in when it's 0 on 4 plus the goalie (thus making him the only Capital in the zone) and he will find a way to score, it's insane...I have not seen Crosby highlights like so...

I wouldn't claim him as the savior just yet, I think it's a bit too early...like Pete suggests, give him a season or two and he might grow into the star we hoped for...but another Gretzky? I dunno..
