From what I've heard Madden is the Xbox killer. Apparently something in it makes the system crash and then for the whole system to be rebuilt. Read it on a couple of message boards from people having the problem. Don't take it as fact, but this is what I've heard so far.

dear god.
Most systems do have problems at launch. The 360 seems to be getting reports of some problems, but the majority of people on message boards it seems have working ones.
I ordered mine from an offer Dell was having yesterday. (683 dollars but it comes with a whole bunch of crap I was going to buy anyway, except for Madden, which I'll probably sell because I hear the game sucks).

Almost as retarded as you :)
Plus, the retail price of everything in the bundle, added up, equals 730 dollars. So basically I saved around 50 dollars.

I'm not EXTREMELY impressed with the 360 or anything, but I just want one. I'll prob. end up buying the Revolution when it comes out, too. And MAYBE the PS3.

hahaits funny and ive already seen this happen in my area. Some dude bought a couple at launch and yesterday while i was in EB sold it to someone else for a $1250. He auctioned it off outside the store, oh and this was the core system too. Just the system and the wired controller. Plus some dude got arrested at my local walmart for starting a fight over not getting one. Oh how I love how the holidays bring out the best in people.

A lot of people don't use eBay until they see something they need. Most of these people just probably made accounts for this reason, because their bratty kids are crying over 360s.

I'm a IGN Insider and spend alot of time on their members only message boards and there are a lot of people complaining about their 360's burning and scratching disc's and freezing and not booting back up. There is also a dude on there that opened his brand new copy of PGR 3 and had a second hole right in the disc. He had pictures and everything. I would definitely wait til they get the problems sorted out...that or just wait for the PS3.

Xbox 360 Recall Likely
Posted Nov 23, 2005, 2:39 PM ET
Xbox 360 unconfirmed rumors from customers are reporting Microsoft Xbox 360 defects. Some defects are flaky screens, crashes, and powering off for no reason during video game play. If the reports are true, then it's likely we'll see an Xbox 360 recall.
While the Microsoft Xbox 360 launch is reporting as a success from vendors and some retailers, some video gamers are reporting defects. So far, the reports are from unconfirmed rumors from Xbox 360 video gamers.
While most people feel that Microsoft mishandled the Xbox 360 launch, sending retailers in overdrive to meet rioted protests from gamers who didn't get a console on November 22nd, there are reports of defects. You have to remember that some of these gamers waited in line all day at retailers such as Wal-mart, Best Buy, and Circuit City only to be told, "We are sold out" within minutes after the 12 midnight sale. Best Buy however, opened their doors later in the morning hours and the Xbox 360 inventory was short lived.
Unconfirmed reports are telling us that some of the Xbox 360s
have defects. Some consoles have dead hard drives, screens are flaky, and some customers are reporting strange behaviors with their hard drives. Some customers are reporting of "scratching discs."
There are reports of bad gameplay, such as the Project Gothan Racing 3 video game. Apparently, it's crashing between tracks repeatedly. This could be the video game CD or the Xbox 360 unit. Another game was Perfect Dark Zero when the unit turned itself off for no reason.
Other customers are reporting crashes on the Xbox Live opening screen and during the startup. At this time, there isn't enough evidence from unconfirmed reports for Microsoft to announce a recall.
If these unconfirmed reports turn out to be true, then the Microsoft Xbox 360 just might be known as the worse planned launch ever in video game console history.
The headline for this on Fark was great. 'Xbox 360, much like Courtney Love, found to be very unstable, riddled with bugs, and available for $400'
I was at gamespot picking up Guitar Hero and they had a phone call from someone who's 360 wasnt working. The disc drive wasnt opening. Turns out there was tape on it from packing.

the crashing xbox3650s are isolated and if u have problems u can call 18004myxbox and they will tell u whats wrong. Very few systems crash which usually is because of the position of the xbox360. Not to worry.
Im a xbox360 fan because unlike sony, Microsoft has alot to prove and not screw things up meaning they'll try harder then sony. Or atlleast thats my input. A recent interview by sony said they were issuing warnings saying this generation will not be easier because of the price of ps3,expensive development, and Xbox360.

yeah I played it at best buy. project gotham and call of duty 2. i was impressed, but basically it just looks like a decent computer game being played on a powerful system. Doom 3 or Half-Life 2 looks far better than anything on the 360, and Day of Defeat: Source for PC is like Call of Duty, but with better weapons, gameplay, and graphics.

It's more than a few, I've been reading the past couple weeks that it's major problem...the main fix that I've seen is elavating the power supply so that it has adequete ventilation. now you just have to worry about where you can set the power supply without it crushing anything, considering it weighs like 10 pounds. "The vast majority of Xbox 360 owners are having an outstanding experience with their new systems," a spokesperson tells Next Generation. "We’ve received a few isolated reports of consoles not working as expected. The call rate is well below what you’d expect for a consumer electronics product of this complexity. As a percentage of the total number of Xbox 360 systems already in the field, these calls represent a very small fraction. That being said, there is no systemic issue with Xbox 360. Each incident is unique and these customer inquires are being handled on a case-by-case basis. Ultimately, customer satisfaction is our highest priority. Anybody having an issue with their Xbox 360 console should call 1-800-4 MY XBOX immediately so that we can help, or visit http://www.Xbox.com/Support (http://www.xbox365.com/www.xbox.com/support)"
Sony admitting trouble
"The risks are surprisingly higher than people think because unless they can replicate its [the PS2's] 70 percent dominant market position, things are going to be very difficult for them going forward."
Koichi Hariya, senior analyst at Mizuho Securities said, "Sony has to launch a new game machine every four, five or six years to maintain the game division's strength." Hariya-san added that PS3 will probably struggle to repeat the profitability of its predecessors.
Perhaps most worryingly for Sony, Hirokazu Hamamura, president of august Japanese games publication Famitsu added: "PS3 will do very well, but it's said that development costs will be high and it'll take longer to make games, so it's likely that it won't have a full line-up of games until the end of 2006 or the beginning of 2007."

you dipshit. of course microsoft isn't going to admit there's problems. you're trusting a statement from MICROSOFT SPOKESMAN? This is a crucial time for them, if they were for one second acknowladge any HINT of troubles, their sales would be hurt very badly. My god, you're naive. I'd trust what I read on non-biased tech news websites, but that's just me. That's like asking Coke if it's better than Pepsi. what the fuck do you think it's going to say?
Of course PS3 isn't going to dominate like it has in the past - not initially. did you even read that article? Not with 2 other next-gen systems launching before it does. By the way, the PS3 isn't expected to hit US shelves until September/October, so why is that suprising that it won't have a full line-up until the end of 2006? That's completely reasonable. The 360 is nowhere close to having a "full line-up" right now, either...it'll take them several months.

And in other topics people were saying that sony would dominate with a price range around the xbox360. I was only showing people that Sony is admitting it will have a harder time.

who cares if microsoft sends you a new one? it's still a giant flaw with the system, and a major inconvinience for anybody that just bought a 360. Also, don't know if you heard, but the ventilation issue isn't the only reason the systems are crashing. The suggested fixes aren't working for everyone. The fact is dude, you just don't look anywhere else besides the US when it comes to your sony vs. xbox argument. it doesn't matter how much the ps3 costs, it doesn't matter when it launches, the fact remains that Microsoft has little to no presence in Japan, which is a larger market than the US. So when it comes to who's going to dominate the war, the question in my mind has already been answered based on historical data of the two companies. Besides. I've played the 360 now. Holy overrated - I even played it on an HD TV. My computer is not that powerful and yet I have seen better graphics and gameplay on it than i saw on the 360. It's barely even a next gen system.

Also the amount of bad systems is an isolated amount and Microsoft cannot be blamed for a manufacture's fault.

using a mouse and keyboard makes PC games better and gives them more funcionality. I mean consoles could never have a ture Unreal Tournament experience. The game is just too fast paced and reguires to much control and reflexes that aren't possible with a controller. Not to mention that the P.C. market is as dominant as the console market. Pretty much developers have to make a kick ass game for PC or it won't sell, where consoles get away with mediocre games. A.K.A. Halo 2 single player (not to mention the unbalanced as hell multiplayer).
I still am impressed at how well Call of Duty looked on a console, and am looking forward to seeing Gears of War.

you obviously haven't seen call of duty 2 on a GeForce 6800. Nor have you seen Day of Defeat: Source on a good PC. Sucks about your ps2 complaints, but considering you were like 10 when the PS2 came out, i wouldn't be suprised if you just didn't know what you were doing. (joking) i've never seen a complaint about the ps2 in which it doesn't play ps1 or ps2 games unless it's at least 4 years old.
I'd say an xbox crashing from NORMAL USAGE is a pretty fucking large flaw. doesn't matter if it's a simple ventilation problem, if you create a system that crashes when it is used normally, it is a large, serious flaw, and a big indication that they lauched the system too early.

Oh I know PC's will always be better. Call of Duty 2 still looks better on an Uber High end PC, but your looking at spending around 1500-2000 (including the price of a good HDTV) bucks for an amazing graphical experience on the 360 compared to 4000-6000 for a high end PC (with really good monitor).

Well you have two options for the reaction of a system when it's ventilation is blocked.
- Stay on until it overheats and causes damange internally or externally.
- Shut off until you fiqure the problem out.
I'd rather move my expensive xbox360 then have to throw it out.

That includes the best video card out there, 2 GB of ram, 3.4 ghz processor, whatever. even if you want to literally max out, and buy an apple cinema display (which by the way, are not the best for gaming - nothing beats CRT monitors when it comes to gaming) you're not going to spend 4000 bucks, that's insane.

Well you have two options for the reaction of a system when it's ventilation is blocked.
- Stay on until it overheats and causes damange internally or externally.
- Shut off until you fiqure the problem out.
I'd rather move my expensive xbox360 then have to throw it out.
you just proved to me why this is a very serious flaw with the 360. Thank you.

Haha. thanks, but my ps2's ventilation doesn't get blocked when i take it out of the box, plug it in, and play. unlike the 360, which is happening to hundreds, maybe thousands of users from normal usage.
it's fun to be smug whenh you know you're right.
edit: also, i don't use my ps2 anymore because it doesn't read discs anymore. I prefer my xbox because it's modded and it's reliable. how's that for interesting? i prefer the xbox to the ps2, but not when it comes to next-gen systems.

Actually I do. I price them all the time.
I read Tomshardware, Maximum PC, CGW, Extreme Tech, Hard Ocp, and look at New EGG religously.
Of course building a PC is cheaper. I'm talking about ordering a system with out having to build it, from a Company with a good reputation. You tell me the cheapest PC you can find with an AMD 64 FX-57, two 7800 GTX's, 2 gigs of highperformance PC-3200 DDR ram (I.E. Corasair XMS), a X-Fi platinum sound card, Ample Hard-drive space, a good set of 5.1 speakers (Logitech Z-5500), and a good 20-inch LCD monitor from a reputable company.
I'm not saying the Xbox 360 can beat a high end PC by today's standards. I'm saying for 400 dollars, out of the box, to be able to pump out the graphics it does it's quite impressive. (possible instability aside)

I get your point now - totally agree. For 400 bucks, it's a steal for the gaming expierence it provides if you're a PC user who's PC usage is geared mainly towards gaming. But also...the things you listed there really aren't neccesary to get better graphics than a 360 - namely the platinum sound card, 5.1 speakers, and a 20-inch LCD monitor. If you get THOSE things, sure, it's going to be ridiculously sick, but also those components alone will more than double the price of a PC who's going to look amazing and sound great with just 2.1 speakers and a 17 inch monitor.

Perhaps most worryingly for Sony, Hirokazu Hamamura, president of august Japanese games publication Famitsu added: "PS3 will do very well, but it's said that development costs will be high and it'll take longer to make games, so it's likely that it won't have a full line-up of games until the end of 2006 or the beginning of 2007."
so Scott stfu You keep blabbing about Sony admitting trouble, but so far every quote you give is some other company speculating.

"Clearly the demand for 360s is huge, so much so that even Microsoft's competition isn't immune to the hype surrounding the system launch. On Monday, one Sony executive who wished to remain anonymous paid $3,000 for a premium Xbox 360 system on eBay. The auction was for one of the first 10 Xbox 360 North American systems, originally given away at E3 as part of a contest sponsored by Mountain Dew. The exec's $3,000 Buy it Now bid netted him the system, a certificate of authenticity, a copy of Kameo: Elements of Power, a limited-edition E3 Xbox 360 faceplate, and perhaps many months of having to live down comments from his teasing coworkers."
