guess this is up to me?
let me try to get this out in the correct order, ill fuck it up
you won't know
sowing season
luca
tommy gun
quiet things
shower scene
no seatbelt (electric)
jaws theme
after jesse said "thank you. thank you very much" like elvis he started to paly some elvis riff
degausser
bride
jesus
sic transit
mix tape
archers
encore -
wish you were here intro (my b)
play crack the sky
i totally biffed the order on most of that, but all the songs are there.
the band looked really into it and had a fun time. i was a bit let down by mwY playing all new stuff minus two songs, but sweater sounded really good... so ill give them that. new album will be good, but id rather hear stuff form foxes live. but yeah, brand new looked like they had fun, some crowd banter, made up for sucking last time i saw them, and a few recent times. really can't complain about that set. i think tcnj got more songs, but they seemed pretty on point tonight, so ill take that.
i think tehy are happy again for some reason, so we can expect good things.

No Gasoline on the list is somewhat disappointing, but I would like to see a video of the Freebird intro.

Absolutely terrific show, but does anyone else hate how they keep closing with Play Crack the Sky? The song itself is great but it is such a horrible closer, so anticlimactic.

freebird intro (as usually.. everyone obnoxiously yells out freebird when a band comes for an encore... and jesse delivered. he played up to the singing part. )
play crack the sky

.
LOL are you serious dude...it was pink floyd "wish you were here"
other than that youre on point.
and where were key set songs like Millstone, Welcome To Bangkok, and Limo. I loved those live previous shows and was sure atleast Millstone and Bangkok would get thrown in. The duel drumming in Millstone give mes goosebumps and I was so looking forward to that. After being at both NJ college shows this year, TCNJ got a much better show. Todays set was only an hour long and i couldnt stand the lighting. So happy to hear bride though! Poor person in the crowd who passed out or whatever during the set change. That pushed everything back 15 mins. And the venue was nice and big, didnt understand why they couldnt sell more tickets. They literally could have fit 300 more ppl in no problem. Moshing during Brand New...come on now. I liked how Jesse told everyone to stop "crawling" (crowd surfing) during acoustic Play Crack. kudos
7/10
P.S. Really really really bummed not a single peep mention about the new album or tour. Not even a bride intro this time.

agreed. I liked the ending in the "you dont know" days. hearing jesse scream those words as everyone throws their stuff down and leaves gives you that impending image you can never forget. raw emotion son, raw emotion. lol

was it? i haven't heard either in so long (after listening to both i see how I could have thought it was an acoustic intro to freebird, but definitely was floyd)
i'm really glad there was no milstone, bangkok, or limo, i see them being a waste of time live.
and yeah, i was really upset about how the lighting guy missed so many queues.
however i must say this is the best i saw brand new in a while in regard to how they sounded / acted / setlist, so i need to give this show a 9

I was lucky enough to score a set list at the end of the show!!!
The order was:
You won't know
Sowing season
Luca
Tommy gun
Quiet things
Jaws theme
No seatbelt
Shower scene
Archers
Jesus
Degausser
Bride (Down)
Mixtape
Sic transit
Play crack
This was my first Brand New show and I thought they were awesome. Though I do wish they played longer...

ArmedROBery
04/04/09, 10:09 AM
mewithoutYou played all new songs, barring C-Minor and In A Sweater Poorly Knit.
I thought Brand New killed it last night. Jesse sounded better than ever (side note: is it me, or does it look like he gained weight?) and all of them were musically tight throughout the show. I really wish Jesse actually played Wish You Were Here though.... I thought he was gonna do it for sure. Good set altogether.
By the way, Bride sounded fucking awesome live.
I've been to a lot of Brand New shows at I thought last night was one of the biggest letdowns I've seen. It wasn't so much the band, they just seemed to play how they normally do, but the crowd was definitely the worst I have even encountered at a Brand New show, and that's really saying something. Of course I probably shouldn't have expected an even half-decent crowd from a college show, especially one in Jersey.

Haha thank you, quite an honor. I'm glad that people tend to be on the same page on this one. I went to URI, Webster CT, and Ramapo and although for the most part they played all of the same songs-albeit in different order- that didn't bother me, but them closing with Play Crack I just don't understand. I had a sneaking suspicion/fear that they were going to do it again last night, but considering the high level of energy by the entire band through the gig, I had my fingers crossed they would prove me wrong and end with "Not the Sun" or something of that nature.
The only positive thing that Play Crack does for me is get me amped for the new record, so that they will hopefully replace that on the setlist with a new song.
Also, and I hate asking for requests, but I was close up and said "Gasoline" when it was quiet and Jessie smiled but didn't play it. Was really hoping for that one! Next time hopefully.

its an ALRIGHT closer, but something better would be appreciated. I was pretty sure they were going to do bangkok after and was surprised they didn't

All in all I thought this was a pretty good show considering the crowd and atmosphere of the place. I was one person from the barrier and had these two girls fighting in front of me the whole night. Play Crack the Sky, I agree, wasn't the best closer but theyre brand new and they play whatever they want. The crowd wasnt to bad the only annoying person was the girl screaming "seventy times seven!' and sic transit gloria

I was at this show too and I agree that they looked really into it. The last time I saw Brand New live was at Bamboozle back in '07 and this was light years better than that performance, so I'm happy they're putting more energy into their shows again. I do have to say that I was extremely disappointed in the set-up at the Bradley Center though. The chairs were so unnecessary and just created needless clutter. If they did away with all of the chairs (that absolutely no one sat in when Brand New was playing, btw) there would have been so much more room. There's no need for folding chairs at a GA show. Great show though and I loved hearing the new song, I've been listening to it on youtube for awhile now so it was good to finally hear it live.

Where were you? I was on the barrier stage left, and I believe I also said something about Gasoline..don't think it was loud enough for Jesse to hear though. I did really want to hear that song live that night though.
They are playing tonight so maybe tonight.

I second that. I was absolutely appalled and embarrassed at the crowd behavior. It really got to a point where it was distracting and taking away from my experience. I don't know when it started being OK to crowd surf in the slow songs... or crowd surf OVER fallen people instead of helping them up... but honestly, it is not acceptable. I saw people go down, and instead of helping them to get up and out of the crowd people were pushing and shoving to take the fallen person's spot. What the hell is that all about?! It's basic respect and show etiquette. These people are fans too! You have something in common with them. You love the same band. Don't you think it goes without saying that if someone falls, or gets hurt, or is bleeding, throwing up, etc... you get them help? I just don't understand.
I had a problem with a few girls behind me trying violently to get into my spot,(I was front and center, rightfully earned from our very very long day in the rain and cold) by basically grabbing the barricade, humping, scratching, elbowing and attempting everything possible to hoist me out of the way. Of course, having been the first person in line, I was not giving my spot for ANYONE, let alone someone who is purposefully trying to ruin my experience. If you want to be along the barricade, GET IN LINE EARLIER. Do not try to take spots from fans who spent an entire day waiting. Rude! It came to a point where I turned around to the girl and said quite simply and calmly that I'm not moving from my spot, and she stopped trying to get in and moved on to the girl next to me, who got hurt VERY BADLY(I even think she might have broke her nose. She was completely knocked out.) and everyone scrambled to take her place rather than help her out of the crowd. I was the only one trying to help her other than the police officers on the other side.
Aside from the crappy crowd, I had a great time, I met some awesome people and Brand New delivered. I was very happy to have waited all day. It was worth it, even though I am a little bruised.
That said, it was very nice to meet you, I hope that your friend loved her first BN show. I think we had a really nice little group of people waiting in line all day together. It made waiting 12 hours in the rain not quite so brutal! What I thought was kinda funny was that all the all-day people had travelled from all over the place. It was really cool. I hope that pizza was enough to keep you going through the show! After we polished that pie off I realized I probably should have considered getting 2 or even 3.
Anyway I hope we meet again at another show! I have lots of pictures and a video from No Seatbelt Song that I will upload maybe tomorrow and post up for everyone.

haha yeah i felt kinda bad scarfing down the pizza, it just disappeared so quickly though. and we made it home pretty easily cause were still amped from the show, but the 5 hour energy shots i bought didn't hurt either. all in all, the drive there early in the morning was much worse with the rain, rush hour traffic, and falling asleep while driving. i just showed this to alicia and apparently she yelled at the girl you were talking about because she saw the girl hitting you? haha it really sucks. some guy spit his gum at alicia so she punched him in the fucking face. good times. and yep, hopefully we'll be able to meet up at future brand new shows.

I was in the front and center, too. I was being shoved down by the crowd and needed a railing to grab on to but was unsuccessful in being able to get one. I was behind the girl who hit her head on the railing and when Brand New came on, her boyfriend started flailing his legs and arms around, and it punched me in the the stomach and I nearly got knocked down. I'm very short and I can't tell you how difficult it was to keep my head clear with non-suffocating air. People were being so violent and pushing and shoving when I was clearly falling down. It got to the point where my friends realized that I was being trampled and tried to get me out. I almost passed out from the heat considering I was in everyone's chests. The cops couldn't hear my friends trying to push me out until my boyfriend plowed through the crowd and lifted me up over the fence. He literally had to punch people so they would let him get through to me. It was RIDICULOUS for a Brand New concert. By the time I got out I literally was having a panic attack and the emt's had to check me out and see if I was okay since my blood pressure got extremely high. They told me to go sit in the back of the concert and I must say, I enjoyed it MUCH BETTER from the back. It was a good concert, but it would have been more enjoyable if people hadn't gotten out of control and realized that there are much smaller people who could get easily crushed.
I have some videos of the concert so if any of you are interested you can check them out here :) http://www.youtube.com/user/youneedahug11
I finally put up my review right here (http://intunemusiconline.com/2009/05/06/brand-new-mahwah-43/). Talk about late.
