Both came out within the same time (a year or so), and both were considered to be one of the bands best releases.

American Idiot. I loved the whole rock opera idea, and the story was great. Blink's album was okay (way overrated, though), but they couldn't pull it off live, due to DeLonge's shitty voice. American Idiot, obviously.

Any other blink vs. Green Day album off I'd go with Green Day, but American Idiot was way too overdone.

there are at least ten people so far. American Idiot fell apart save one or two songs after track 4. Untitled is a smooth musical journey all the way through.

As much as I love S/T, American Idiot had that rock opera / story element that, to me, makes an album that much better (if it's a good story).

when it came out I was really into American Idiot, but Blink 182 has grown on me as of late, so i'll have to with that

how many good songs did american idiot have? 5? and blink's s/t was good, no, amazing, throughout.

blink 182's self titled.....typically proclaimed as the worst of the blink albums...a major showing for their demise....their least fun album...and yet its beating American idiot, one of the most shockingly amazing albums of the 21st century (breakdown). Appauling.

You cant blame the band/album that the songs got overplayed to hell..aka the reason for the green day backlash lately. When the album first came out, the entire album was near perfection...

I dont blame people for being sick of the album...how do I listen to Holiday or Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and not turn it off? At first listen GD wins no doubt about it.

Green day became arrogant pricks. Think they invented Rock 'n Roll with the American Idiot record. The second half of the album isn't great at all.

way too much tom on s/t and therefore green day wins this one.

with that said, i wasn't a huge fan of either album.

i'm one of those 'they were so much better back in the day' assholes.

I know I'm in the minority (even here) but blink's S/T is my favorite album of all time, period. Just caught me at the right time, you know? Senior year, pretty sure it was a NOV/fall release, ahhhh... Brings me back. Track 1-14, no track that wears down on the listener, IMO.

American Idiot was a really good record though. It gets flack because of how main stream it went but it was deserving of the praise it got, IMO.

Blink's Untitled is possible their best work. Sure, it's different, but there is so much going on in that album sonically that its just amazing.

HAHAHAHAHA...oh wait, you were serious.

Here is a piece of advice, just because you think it is blink's worst album does not mean that it is "typically proclaimed as the worst of the blink albums" because that is just complete bullshit. And what exactly made American Idiot so "shockingly amazing"? Was it their ability to string together a bunch of short Green Day songs to make long "epic" ones, or was it how they tossed character names into songs that don't really have much common ground (lyrically speaking of course) for the sake of keeping to the whole rock opera theme?

By the way, I actually think American Idiot is a pretty good record. Your claims were just too completely ridiculous to ignore.

come on this is no contest... american idiot is a great album but blink's self titled blows it away.

stockholm syndrome anyone? that intro is killer... and easy target and how it transitions in to all of this with robert smith?!

such an amazing album, and it was such a radical change to blinks sound for the most part... i believe it is by far their best work.

DeLonge actually sounded awesome on that album? First time he didn't whine all the lyrics...

Their was still too much of him on the record, not enough solo Mark or true duets. As for American Idiot, it was a stellar album no doubt, but it was too politicaly charged for me to get too into it (*coughJesusOfSuburbiacough*).

i went with blink

American idiot is really good but i think why everyone thought it was incredible back then was because it was like the first big fuck u to bush
listening to it now i find actually really repetitive (the latter half of the album) and unrelatable, and for me it might be my least favourite greenday recrord

self titled is still to this day probably one of my most played records and it along with dude ranch is there best
its lyrically so dark and lovelorn that it works fucking great, and to doesnt have one bad song
also for people saying its there worst, im pretty sure it was there best reviewed by far and got 4 out of 5 stars in rolling stone

lulz. true though. I enjoy their stuff but I think they're a little overrated. At the same time, they are the band that most introduced a lot of the AP population to this type of music...

I went with American Idiot, it was more enjoyable to me. The Blink untitled was kind of unsettling to me

duuuude,
i mean american idiot was EPIC and the punk rock opera was a great idea it was really awesome to see the band relaunch their careers...especially after already selling millions of records and releasing a greatest hits.
but blink went from songs about fucking grandpas and dogs and shit to collaborating with Robert Smith.
I went with blink 182 because it really showed progression from a band who was known for their immaturity.

I was talking about the lyrics.

Lyrically, I love a lot of American Idiot, and think that Billie Joe is a far superior lyricist to either Mark or Tom (Though I definitely relate to blink's material better, and lyrically, +44 was a really strong showing for Mark)

American Idiot works better as a comedy album than some sort of white-boy-middle-class social statement. it's sad.

I could never really get into the self-titled blink cd for some reason but american idiot is a pretty solid record. i'm not really into green day that much (minus dookie) but that record has some really good songs on it.
