View Full Version : The "Fuck You Yao Ming" Thread
Most overhyped player in history, I've been saying it since he was drafted. He never fucking comes through in the clutch and yet we try to base our offense off him.
Please, T-Mac, come back :(

He gets too much hype and credit, but I'd be plenty happy to roll with him as my starting center.
Most fans want to see big men get in the paint, play power basketball (Read: American Basketball.) and dominate. Like Shaq. That's not Yao, and I don't know if it ever will be. He's an overseas player, they actually play ball over there, they don't throw their size around to score. They depend on finesse and actual ability to hit an open shot.
Overrated? Yeah. Very solid basketball player and quality starting center? Yeah.

Yeah, not only is he an overseas player, which makes him more of a finesse player, but also look at his frame compared to Shaq!
Yao is tall, yes, but he is obviously not built like Shaq. He's lanky. How do you expect a lanky guy to throw his body around? He's not a tank...

hes averaging almost a double double each game. that may not be amazing but he is playing decent. almost 20 per game and almost 9 rebs per game. plus hes a much more consisten shooter than shaq.

i dont know how you can hate on yao. you must not watch basketball if you're hating. he's one of the top five centers in the leauge. he's got career avg's of 16 pts, 9 boards and 2 blocks per game. besides amare, who else could the rockets have taken in 2002 that would've been worth a damn? alot of teams slept on amare, but yao is a damn good center. there is no other center in the leauge right now, nor has there been in the last ten years that dominates the paint like shaq, and there may not be for awhile.
this season he's fourth among all centers in scoring with 19 ppg, only being outdone by okur(boozers out those numbers wont continue), duncan and jermaine. he's also averaging 9 rpg, which puts him ninth. he's in the top ten in both scoring and rebounding among centers. i dont think you can ask for much more out of your center when he's getting 19 and 9.

i'm not saying he's not solid, or not good. he's just not your "American" center, and that's why people hate on him. it seems like everyone just wants a bruiser in the middle like Shaq who's gonna use his 330 pounds to clear room for himself to make a basket.

4 out of 5 times, Shaq will prevail over Yao.

Yes, but the problem is that the Rockets are trying to base their offense around Yao as a big man and its killing them. Yao is a role player, no more, no less. He'll get you 18-25 points a game maybe rebounds, but he's not there when you really need him. That's why we always lose it in the 4th quarter. Every game the Rockets have lost to date have been by a margin of like 5-8 points. Very close.

thank you for saying what I was about to. Overrated? Do you know how hard it is to find a big man in this league that puts up consistent numbers? And most overrated player ever....how can you say that when we have Vince Carter in this league? ;)

Maybe you need to stop turning to your big man for offense late in games, considering the Rockets are one of about 5 teams in the NBA with an outstanding center, yet those other teams manage to win....

when tracy mcgrady is on your team its kinda hard for one to takeover a game. yao is a vital part of the rockets. but tmac runs that show. yao is just his runiin mate.

this argument is all really pointless. take for instance a loss against the pistons on nov 18th. yao had 20 pts and 7 boards against big ben, the best defensive center in the leauge...what were t mac's stats for the night? 3 for 16 with 6 points. next game against the pacers they did lose, but yao had 24 points and 13 boards while having jermaine on him. the next high scorer was derek anderson was 13. 20 and six against the mavs...luther head played a great game, ill give him that. i dont think you guys are giving yao enough credit...look at the teams they've played without tmac. detroit, indiana, dallas, phoenix...that's a TOUGH schedule. and even with tmac, they may've not won those games. one player cant make a team, and yao cant do it by himself...he needs tmac, and he needs the other players around him to make them sucessful. remember, it's a TEAM. and when t mac's out yao doesnt always get the support from his TEAM that he needs. let's take yao off your team and give you jerome james, or greg ostertag or adoynal foyle. do you still want to bitch? shut up.

this whole thread people have said how yao isnt shaq. he's not. he's a different style of player, shaq is about dominance, yao is about finesse. tmac isnt kobe either. so to say kobe and shaq did it in LA is irrelevant. they also had much better role players around them. in 2000 the lake shows had glen rice avg'ing 15 ppg. along with ron harper, rick fox, derek fisher and others. 2001 fisher, fox, horace grant, robert horry. same goes for 02. they need better role players around them not guys who were good five years ago.

im not bitching about anything i was just trying to clarify what i thought he meant. obviously yao is better then those players personally i think yao is pretty good player and could get a lot better. He just had too much hype before getting drafted, which isn' his fault, and people expect him to do great. As of now he isn't a clutch player or somebody you want to carry your team down the stretch no matter what all those numbers say, though he is still young and has the potential to become one

i didn't read any of the posts here, but yao is a top 5 center in a game where top big men can make or break a team. it's proven throughout history, the great teams had the best big men in their day. yao is good enough to win with a decent cast around him so i really don't see how that makes him overrated unless people really expected him to be dunking from the three point line. anyway, my team has samuel dalembert as center. wanna trade?
