Gratitude (http://www.gratitudemusic.com) has broken up:
Gratitude
January 15th, 2003 - November 23rd, 2005
We played our final show on November 23rd, 2005. It was at the Ascot Room in Minneapolis, MN, Jer&Dave's hometown. It was a really fun time, a perfect ending. We ended happy and able to look each other in the eyes. In the much-too-short life of this band, we had some incredible times, put in a lot of good, hard work, and learned a lot about what we want and what we don't want in this life of trying to make a living making music. To anyone that ever listened at home or came to a show or helped us out in any way, thank you so much. We will continue to visit here and leave information about what we are all up to musically and otherwise. There are links to contact any of us personally, and we'd love that too. Again, thank you, from all of us.
Gratitude
good riddance to unimaginative music!

i loved em from the start. it felt like forever waiting to get my hands on the cd! im suprised it went so fast. the show i saw of them open for jimmy eat world was inspiring, chill giving! just as inspiring as Jonah was at the 04 Skate and Surf. . . . such a great musician and human being.
well, I wish them all the best! we all live for music, especially the musicians, but there is more to life than just that, we must always realize...

in all honesty, fuck that band. they got way too much press here for their actual talent. they were decent, but that jonah guy is not paul mccartney, nor is he michael jackson. i don't give a shit how many side projects a guy has. i know i'm going to get flamed for this comment, but whatever. i appreciate everyone else in that band but jonah. as a matter of fact, i take back my first comment. i shouldn't have said "fuck that band." fuck that guy is what i meant to say. and fuck the amount of undeserved coverage he gets.

So you're going to judge a GUY based on how much coverage a WEBSITE gives him? As if it's his fault or something...

yes. i also deem antony to be false.
yes. i also deem antony to be false.
I'm not sure what the second statement means, but I do know that Jonah is one of the most passionate and kindhearted guys I have ever met in my life. Musician or not, Gratitude or not, that guy has a love for music, fans and people in general. To judge him (as a person) based on anything other then conversation is flat out wrong.
"they got way too much press here for their actual talent."-- I tend to disagree. I think Gratitude were the msot underrated band of the year, by far.
jonah goes through bands like i go through underwear.
i say another new end original album should be in order.

This album really surprised me how good it came out. For me it was pretty solid all the way through and it should end up in my top 20 if not top 10 for the year.

I didnt think they got enough press honestly. They weren't great by any means and no one I've seen has referred to him as Paul McCartney and God forbid Michael Jackson. This is a totally unwarranted comment and you get 0 respect from me.

i was at the final show in the ascot room, they put on an amazing performance. Jonah is one of the most vibrant, energetic frontmen i've ever seen.

Hmmm. Just out of curiosity, how can a band be "overrated" when they sold so horribly that they would've probably been dropped from their label in about a year's time? I could understand if masses of kids were buying Gratitude's record/going nuts over them but that isn't the case.
Well, that's rubbish - nice catchy band making some cool music. Shame I never got to see them live either, didn't realise I had the opportunity until it was too late...
Ah well. Just as well I love Mr. Matranga's solo material just as much.

Gratitude were so underrated.
so true, so true.
i don't want to start a discussion, or anything. i just seriously hope cd sales go up in the new year. it's a horrible thing that people download their "favorite bands" album yet don't actually support them by picking up the cd. I understand that a lot of people don't always have money for the disc, and heck, i have been to the point where i have borrowed to just pick up the cd on the release date cause i wanted to read the booklet....experience the full effect of what the band has to offer, ya know. rake, cut grass , shovel etc... you can appreciate the music much more. i hope a lot feel the same way, and even if you don't , look into it, we need to do our part. a lot of the time it's us who breaks the bands up, that sounds shitty, but its true. it's been said many time before, but i feel it has to be run through over and over. ugh, anyways, i'm just really upset over this...i wanted the best for jonah and the gang... best to them all.
It's up to the bands to convince their fans that they should buy rather than download illegally. They can whine and complain about fairness and supporting the band but they are the ones that enter in shitty record deals and get paid $1-2 per CD. I will continue to illegally download music until someone can give me a compelling reason to spend money on a product I can get for free. The failure of Gratitude is a perfect example of an unoriginal radio-rock band shooting for the mainstream that failed because the current music industry is shifting to a model that supports taking risks and orignial ideas. That's why Clap Your Hands Say Yeahs are going to survive and why Gratitudes and Autopilot Offs will continue to fail.

enough of the fuckin' hate for Jonah and this band. in a time where bands have the same sound and write about the same "dark" material (cutting wrists, blacking eyes, killing, death, etc) gratitude have managed to write a great positive, heartfelt, upbeat record.
loooove them.

new end original should make a return.
Haha ok so. listen to this. One time I was watching Gratitude open up for Minus the Bear, right? Ok, so. Anyways, I was watchin' em', right? Ok soes I'm all, up in the front in the bands' faces right? And I'm all dancin' and groovin' to Gratitude, and like, I totally did the catholic sign for "father, son, holy spirit" too the tune of the 4/4 beat. And holy shit like, the singer, Jonorh or some in, he like totally was all, like, laughin about it the whole time. Afterwards I realized how Christian the band name "gratitude" sounded, and guffawed (to myself) at the complete irony of that whole situation.
Then I'm all like fuck the what?

I know Gratitude didn't even have a screamer, or wear girls jeans...but that doesn't mean they are a bad, unoriginal or even untalented band. I know Jessey Lacey never told you he liked them, or they never played with Fall Out Boy but come on, Gratitude was definitlley a good band.
Jonah's energy and love for music was evident in each of his live shows. It was positive music and a great experience anytime I saw them play. If you are feeling shitty throw on the Gratitude album and it will make you feel good...or go put on The Silence in Black and White and think about what shirt you are gonna wear to your next "punk" rock show.
Grattiude deserved all the press they got and then some...how much FOB news do we get and people were complaining about Gratitude covereage being too much? Please, get off your trendy horse and listen to good music becasue you like it, not because that cool kid from school was wearing their T-shirt.

As much as this sucks and as much as I'm kicking myself for going to their last Boston show, I cannot wait to hear Jonah's new project, whenever it may surface.

I disagree. There have been a shit load of fantastic albums this year. Here's a few off the top of my head:
City & Colour "Sometimes"
Marigold "Audible To Animals"
Spoon "Gimme Fiction"
The New Pornographers "Twin Cinema"
Harvey Danger "Little By Little"
The Juliana Theory "Deadbeat Sweetheartbeat
Matthew Good "In A Coma"
Deerhoof "The Runners Four"
and more including the obvious choices (Circa Survive, TREOS, Gatsbys... etc, etc etc..)
Easily a better year than 2004.

i actually never listened to gratitude, although i had been meaning to for the longest time. my friend saw them play at a minus the bear show and he really liked gratitude (and since we have very similar tastes, im sure i would have really dug gratitude too). i like onelinedrawing a lot... but yeah, this sucks that the band broke up cause now i'm too late to go to a show.

If they had gotten enough press, they probably wouldn't have broken up. Atlantic probably would have dropped them otherwise. Sales speak louder than music to major labels.
They weren't that good. Jonah gets points from me for putting R2D2 on onelinedrawing stuff.

it's not his talent or his ability as a musician that people really appreciate...sure thats part of it, but if you've ever met the man, or seen his passion about music first hand, you'd better understand...
jonah matranga is one of the nicest and most caring individuals i've ever had the chance to talk to in my life...musician or otherwise

I dig Gratitude, it will probably sit in the 16-25 range on my albums of the year, but they have some catchy pop songs. No way do I think that is overrating a band, it's okay to say you dont like them, but overrated they are not.

Jonah... I haven't seen someone shoot himself in the foot this much since Chris from Showoff.
this break up has been brewing for awhile.
Gratitiude has just recently completed a UK tour with Soon To Be September who i know personally.
A few weeks after the tour Kristoff from STBS got a message from Jonah on myspace saying that Gratitudes record company are thinking about dropping them from their label because they wernt selling as many records as they would have liked.
i was gonna mention it on here, but i thought id leave it incase it resulted in nothing and everyfin turned out fine.
...i guess not.
