My friend and I are thinking about getting a radio show together on Monday nights for one hour next semester, so I decided to whip together a couple 50-55 minute playlists using my music library (not very big). I'm not sure what the university station has for music or what my friend has, but it would obviously change the playlists if there's a lot more available. I'm trying to keep it interesting without staying in one niche too much, throwing a bone to multiple crowds really. Anyways, here's 2 I threw together in a few minutes:
1. Elvis Costello - "Welcome to the Working Week" (Our theme song)
2. Refused - "Liberation Frequency"
3. Buddy Holly - "Oh Boy!"
4. Talking Heads - "Take Me to the River"
5. R.E.M. - "The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight"
6. Okkervil River - "Black"
7. The New Pornographers - "The Bleeding Heart Show"
8. Kaizers Orchestra - "Dekk Bord"
9. The Jam - "Beat Surrender"
10. Run DMC - "My Adidas"
11. RX Bandits - "Newsstand Rock (The Exposition)"
12. The Shins - "Turn a Square"
13. The Sounds - "Seven Days a Week"
14. U2 - "When Love Comes to Town"
15. The Beatles - "Taxman"
1. Elvis Costello - "Welcome to the Working Week" (Our theme song)
2. Coldplay - "Politik"
3. Bad Religion - "Sorrow"
4. Architecture in Helsinki - "Neverevereverdid"
5. Radiohead - "Karma Police"
6. Rival Schools - "Used for Glue"
7. The Pixies - "Debaser"
8. Modern Life is War - "D.E.A.D.R.A.M.O.N.E.S."
9. Public Enemy - "Bring the Noise"
10. Stray Cats - "Rock this Town"
11. Ted Leo & the Pharmacists - "Me and Mia"
12. Violent Femmes - "Add it Up"
13. The Format - "The First Single"
14. The Beatles - "A Hard Day's Night"
15. Monty Python - "Always Look On the Bright Side of Life"
Leave your thoughts and which of the two you like better.

I'd go with the second. Stray Cats and Ted Leo, that's a winner. Although, both have their strong points...

I think the first one falls into a rut at the beginning because its like 5 classic rock songs in a row, so you either love it or hate it from the start. I think if I mixed those up and maybe took 2 out and put in something else it would be stronger.

Yeah, spend some time combining the best of those two into one, and you'll be set.

Well I'd be doing this every week for like 4 months, so I need to keep it spread out. Those are just samples.

each set has some stronger and weaker tracks.... personally i might change the Ted Leo song from me and mia to little dawn, but little danw is a longer song, so maybe even something off of the hearts of oak album?
i like seeing the rx bandits on the first list though

I like the call on the Ted Leo track, "Me and Mia" definitely isn't my favorite, but it's the best at grabbing people's attention and getting them to tap their feet. I was actually thinking of "Walking to Do" maybe in that spot. Or something off of Tyranny of Distance. Not sure though. It's all just practice though. And if I were to pick something off of Hearts of Oak, there's a good chance it would be even longer than "Little Dawn".

where have all the rude boys gone seems to be a really good introductary track to the motherfucking man
I prefer the tracks on the second ones since it is more diverse than the first.
Architecture in Helsinki, Modern Life is War, Public Enemy and The Beatles. Sounds good to me.
But if you were going to do any songs off of Tyranny of Distance, I suggest Squeaky Fingers, its upbeat and fast moving if you really want to change the Ted Leo track.

to be completely honest with you... it looks a LOT like my college radio playlists from my spring 2003 semester. you know, minus the chill out and overloads of Fischerspooner. but pretty good stuff indeed. can't say i'd listen to it all, but that's the joy of playing to a mixed crowd right? good luck getting the slot
