i feel like them choosing this song, the least rocking song on the album, is a precursor to them hitting the radio. i mean, look at what green day did by releasing good riddance and rise against by releasing swing life away. those songs sounded nothing like anything else on the album but got them all over the radio and boosted their sales.

But it's not a rock ballad at all. It's a very good mid-tempo song, nothing about it preaches ballad.
