Now the Clippers are having an amazing start to this season and the Lakers have the 2nd worst record in the West....so my question is...
Do you guys think that this trend will continue and that the Clippers will make the playoffs and the Lakers will stay in last place or will the Clippers bomb?

wow. great topic. and good quesiton. honestly, kobe is a great player...but he needs someone else there to help him. lamar odom just doesnt quite cut it. the clippers finally have a good roster that's producing. elton brand, who's probably one of the most dominant forwards in the game, yet you rarely hear about because of where hes played, is finally getting some recognition. i think he's been underrated since he came in the leauge. i think they need a better center than kaman, wilcox did good last year in his absence though. corey is another player we rarely hear about because of being on the clippers, but has produced good #'s the last two years. i honestly think this year the clippers can keep this up and be a playoff team. the lakers have the right coach in there, and a great player to buld around in kobe...they just need to find him a couple of good running mates. he'll prolly never have another shaq, but i think with a decent center and another good guard they could be good.

yeah I have the same feelings. Cassell has really come in there and given a spark to the Clippers. They have always had talent in Brand and Maggette and now with a good PG it seems as though they have found a good chemistry. A good center would definitely help out their chances of making the playoffs though.
The Lakers on the other hand have Kobe, who is taking way too many last second shots in order to beat the shot clock. The rest of the Lakers team is not aware of how to run the Triangle offense that Jackson is trying to implement and it is hurting them deeply right now. I honestly don't see the Lakers making the playoffs though because Kobe tries to contol things way too much. He needs to help his team out more in learning the Triangle offense and give more players opportunities to shoot the ball because with him taking around 30 shots a game, he isn't going to accomplish anything. Kobe always had someone to back him up and that was Shaq and with him gone I don't see the Lakers doing anything this year.

riiiiight. then injury prone b diddy fucks some body part up and misses 30 games. he's missed almost 100 games over the last 3 seasons. he's injury prone and usually hurts a team more than he helps them in the long run. plus, golden state hasnt been to the playoffs in more than ten years. the warriors will finsih worse than the lakers this year.

I'm gonna call you out on that one buddy. I'm not sure if GS will make the playoffs, but I'm betting they beat out the lakers. Golden State is playing fantastic basketball and I think the lakers are not a smart enough team to be in Jackson's offense or defense. Everyone except Kobe is prone to looking completely lost. Odom puts up a lovely amount of shots and still only puts up 15 a game
(41% fg). He should be relegated to a 2nd or 3rd option behind Kobe rather than his right hand man. Kwame Brown is hurt and is a bust anyways. Smush Parker is good, but once again, a minor role player.
Golden state has richardson and murphy and a very solid backup point in Derek Fisher. I think you underestimate them. We will bring this thread back around Valentine's and see which one of us is correct. Plus they average like 47 rebounds a game. I think they are the real deal and take 7th or 8th playoff spot.
EDIT: Hey, I can't add you as a friend because every time I click ADD it comes up with an error screen. It's a little demeaning to look at your profile and it says 'you have no friends'. It reminds me of Junior High too much.

IF he stays healthy...IF. this is me being pretty damn confident that he wont stay healthy. i was a hornets fan for a few years because mashburn is my favorite player(talk about injury prone), and davis always would get hurt at a crucial point during the season. so, warriors fans, just when things are looking good...there goes your pg. and if he's out there goes your team. bd is damn good, and i think he's proven so far this year that he can carry a team. because the warriors, with basically all the same players the last couple of years, have sucked my left nut. as for the clippers being one of the worst teams in sports, they havent been any worse than the warriors, and they've actually tasted the playoffs in the last ten years. and why shouldnt the wizards have made the playoffs? the wizards had been in the playoffs in the last ten years prior to last.
basically what im trying to say, is if BD stays healthy the warriors WILL be tough. but chances are, he won't and it'll be another shitty season for warriors fans. never rely on baron davis. you'll be let down.

the clipps might make it this year, i went with yes just because ive always been a fan...i love the lakers as well, but when i was younger i had season tickets to the clipps so theyve always had a soft spot for me. it wont keep up though, while the lakers really dont look like theyll get better anytime soon the clippers will dismantle the team like always, sam cassell is old...he cant be playing at this level for much longer, and their management is horrendous...however mitch kupcheck is the worst ever.

ya but the warriors arent that strong period, their 2 stars are guards, and while they can win against the lesser talent once houston is back to strength, they wont be able to be them, once phoenix is back to strength, they wont be able to be them...you are right about seattle and sacto though...but now you have the clippers contending also...i just dont see it happening this year, they will be much improved but i have a feeling they will just miss the playoffs.

the warriors record isnt that impressive. they've only beat two teams over .500 in the bulls and the bucks, but they've also lost games to both of those teams as well. when they've faced teams that are over .500 and contender teams, they fail miserably. lost to the spurs by 24, by 15 to the suns, and they also lost to the clippers by 12 points. it's early into the season, they've yet to pull of a win against an impressive team. and until they do so, they wont hear any praise from me. they've got games coming up against the suns and the pistons and a few other .500 teams, if they win some of those games, maybe ill take em seriously, they're still just a joke to me though.

Lakers roll players are garbage, and pretty much always have been, with the exception of Robert Horry, Rick Fox, and Derek Fisher back in the good days, but Brian Cook, Kwame Brown, and Deavean George are lacking. Kobe and Lamar Odom can't score 100 points by theirselves everynight.

always have been? are you serious? of all the role players the lakers have had in the past, you mention fox, horry and fisher?! what about byron scott, ac green, michael cooper, michyal thompson, orlando woolridge, sam perkins, vlade, bob mcadoo, jamall wilkes, norm nixon. thats just from the 80s, i didnt go into the 70s. they lakers didnt need role players when they won the three in a row a few years back. shaq and kobe were nearly unstoppable. that's all they needed,
as for saying the kwame trade is the worst trade in history...think again. theres been ALOT worse in the nba. that's not even in the top 20.

the clippers dont have my respect either. but i think they're a better team than the warriors. the clip have lost those five games, but they lost them by a total of 28 points, rather than being blown ouy like the warriors were a couple of times...proving they can at least run with the better teams in the leauge.
cassell>davis - so far this season at least - higher scoring avg, better shooting percentages, and a much better floor leader. baron has alot to prove.
richardson>mobley - ill give this one to the warriors, hes played some gooood ball this year. just needs to learn how to be a leader
maggette>dunleavy - wow i dont think i need to explain myself here. corey's 23 ppg outweighs mikes 9 ppg. dunleavy is not a very good player, what a wasted pick by the warriors, of all the players the could've picked...and they take him. he'll never be anything more than a 10 ppg guy in the leauge.
elton brand>troy murphy - another obvious choice. ill admit im a HUGE t murph fan. but he doenst hold a candle to brand. murphys a good role player who needs a new team. brand is having an mvp type season so far with 24 ppg and 11 rpg along with nearly 3 bpg. and not to mention he's shooting freaking 56% from the field.
chris kaman>adoynal foyle - foyle's a dud. another horrible draft pick by the warriors. kamans putting up 7 ppg and 7rpg along with 2 bpg this year. this was a kinda hard one to pick...but kamans better than foyle.
the one thing i WILL give the warriors credit for is depth on their bench. too bad pietrus is out because he had some pretty flashy games.

As far as cassell being better then davis i would have to disagree. his shooting percentage is better then davis this year but i think davis leads a team better.davis has turned that team around almost by himself. they average pretty much the same amount of points and davis leads in the assist department.

agreed davis averages 2 more assist a game to cassell so i wouldnt call cassell a "much better floor leader"
A healthy baron davis > a healthy sam cassell
Sam has better intangibles such as leadership and vision, but Davis is more skilled at this point in their careers.

i still disagree. cassell has got two championship rings. and he's been the floor leader on many playoff teams. baron davis has been in the playoffs a couple of times, but no where near the likes of cassell. someone said that davis is proving himself now? how? we're like 15 games into the season...FIFTEEN, he'll be injured in about 10 games...

there's a difference between starting...and proving...alot of players have started to do things...davis needs to PROVE he can do these things. its there best START to the seaosn since 91...whooooooooo cares? there's still ALOT of basketball to be played, warriors will win about 35 or 40 games this season...maybe

cassel usually is always the number two option on a team. playing with better players have helped him free up his game cause teams first look to stop a player like olajuwan or kg first. im not say cassell isnt great cause he is. i personally would rather have davis now, if he can stay healthy

chemistry of which team?
Both. I don't think either will make it.
The lakers wont because Kobe likes to throw up retarded shots that don't need to be taken, while they pass up open opportunities to try to control the clock then heave up a shot with one second on the shot clock. Lamar Odom will not take his share of shots which will continue to plague him as the media picks him apart.
The Clippers wont because Maggette and Brand both want to be leaders. You can really only have one. Maggette is a douchebag who wants to be the next Kobe or maybe Antonie Walker (throwing up stupid shots). Whatever the case, Maggette or Brand will have to be dealt for this team to succeed.
The Clippers do have the better chance out of the two. I would place Phoenix and Golden State ahead of the clips because they are better overall teams. Lakers, honestly, have no chance. Unless they make Smush Parker into some superstar and Odom because they player he's suppose to be.

come on caleb he did miss a lot of games but if he stays healthy there is no way the lakers end up with a better record. the warriors are a much better TEAM then the lakers. the lakers are all kobe. the playoff history doesnt matter at all its a different team and a new year. thats a weak argument. if thats true then the clippers definitely arent making it either. they have been one of the worst teams in sports the last ten years. Also the wizards shouldnt of made the playoffs last year then
hmm im looking to be right so far. warriors have only won 3 in their last 10...next stop...the lottery.
Caleb Cattivera
02/09/06, 01:12 AM
It reminds me of Junior High too much.

i dont either...but it's fun blaming him, and if you look at history, it's legitimate in a way. five playoff apperances in 13 years as a player with the team...they couldve picked joe dumars over mullin...dumb move, but a different story...the warriors have usually had good squads...but chris mullin's legacy, or lack there of...is keeping them from going anywhere.

they were 9-4 with him in the lineup and are 20 and 14 without him. a higher winning percentage when he's in there. any team is going to miss 22 ppg and 6 rpg a night. they're still winning becaue other players are stepping up. quinton ross is starting in his place...now who would you rather have...a guy who gives you 22 and 6 per or a guy who gives you 6 and 3 per?
they've also lost to teams without corey, that they won when he was in the lineup. for instance, the lakers, and the heat. they were winning before he got injured...with him back in the lineup they'll be alot better.

9-4 compared to 20-14 isn't a fair comparasion anyway. I'd take 6 and 3 if we win and there is better chemistry, which i believe there is. I would trade him away and get more role players. Maggette is a slightly better Darius Miles in my opinion. They will fall apart like most pretender teams do after all star break.
