So yeah I'm lookin for a new guit at the moment and I'm just wondering what people who play think is gonna give me the best tones for punk rock
I play stuff like Rancid, Teenage BottleRocket, Offspring, Screching Weasel, (before enema) BLink 182, ALkaline trio, FLatliners etc
if u wanna give me reasos y u pick what u did tht would be sweet

SG's and Les Paul's have a nice thick sound so they're great for rhythm, for lead I would say Telecasters and Jazzmasters are great, although I've honestly never played some of the guitars you have listed up there.

I prefer the Strat for the pseudo-punk of the 90's. It gets great distortion as well as a nice clean sound. 2nd place goes to the Les Paul fasho.

On the subject of guitars, any one have a gibson SG-X they'd like to sell or trade?

I voted Telecaster because I play one. I don't play punk though besides a few Alkaline Trio songs (Private Eye and Radio were like two of the first songs I ever learned)

depends, if your gonna play any leads, a tele or strat will definetly cut through the noise. if your just holdin down the rythm, any solid body with humbuckers will do.
and while i went with the sg, no love for the flying v?

Don't get a les paul. Everyone does that now and honestly, you can get a more versatile tone with a strat that has a humbucker at the bridge. I have a fat strat with a seymour duncan invader at the bridge and it has a better tone than my Gibson SG standard.

I think Les Pauls are just overall better guitars.

Good question, I'm also thinking about this. At the moment I'm swaying towards GLS or SG. Expensive though :(

do yourself a favor and get a good les paul...unless you have girly hands and can't handle the beefy necks..then get a fender you wussy, the telecaster deluxe is a good model with that fender feel and a bit of the paul vibe

telecaster's feel natural to me. and el hefe from nofx rips on one, and he's the best lead guitarist in punk that i know of, so i guess i'll go with that.

Punk Rock?
The answer is obvious if you're really punk rock:
