a friend and I set out to prove how easy it is to make an electronica song like Breathe Carolina or The Secret Handshake. We wrote a song in 3 hours, and have been getting pretty crazy feedback. Let us know if we succeeded

I'm the other kid in this band and I know what you're saying. Most pop-punk songs are no real musical feat. I guess we are more making fun of this scene, then necessarily the people who make this music (with the exception of breathe carolina and brokncyde). We're poking fun at the fact that some autotune, an electronica beat (which personally I'm pretty proud of for making it in an hour), and a paint splattered myspace can be excused for a legitimate band in the world today. I actually like quite a few Secret Handshake songs and think Luis is a pretty solid song writer and I don't really tie him into this scene as much. It's the Breathe Carolina's and Brokencyde's I have a problem with, that are so much style over substance it is ridiculous.

Well, I'm not a fan of this type of music at all. If we were being serious about it, it would show. I think it's pretty obvious we don't take it seriously when you look at us, but whatever. We really just set out to prove how easy it is for bands like breathe Carolina and shit to write their music, and I think we did. We didn't spend any money to make it, we won't make any money from it.

What mick said is exactly right if we were actually serious I think we would try a little harder, none of these songs took more then 4 hours to make. The lyrics are pretty much about nothing and are the cheesiest thing in the world. We don't make any money from this and we don't plan on making any money from this. We have fake merchandise on American Apparel models for god sake. So I guess you're obviously right we are pulling a fast one on the entire world because we are two talentless musicians working our asses off to make this music. YEAH DUDE! You caught us! I'm actually going to drop out of school so we can go on tour opening for Millionaires and Brokencyde on the "We Don't Give a Fuck, You Don't Give A Fuck, LET'S Fucking FUCK! The Secret Handshake are a very different thing to Brokencyde, in that they are actually writing complete
songs to express more than lets get crunk and fuck.
There's more of a depth to the music than that.
I'm in an Australian dance band myself (not a scene thing though....more in tune with Duran Duran and The Pet Shop Boys than anything else), and we're opening for The Secret Handshake at their Sydney show..But there is no way we'd do an opening act for something like Breathe Carolina etc.
There's a matter of sencerity and actually believing in the music that I think contributes to making a band a real band.

ironic for someone to be bashing electronic based music yet in a band that sounds like its all midi (and not even done well, hihats are so loud, strings sound like they are from a kids keyboard and mixed really poorly). This track sounds really bad :/. If making music at the caliber of the bands you mentioned is so "easy" (secret handshake, etc) then you should really make music better than it, not worse.

We said this when we were on the front page, I guess we forgot to post it here. we're not bashing all electronica based music. I love bands like Passion Pit and what not, we're just bashing that little niche genre of neon splatter and autotuned as fuck vocals. It's fine if you don't dig our band, but i don't think our recording mix should really even come into judging the actual song writing/substance of the songs.

Anywho, I completely love Passion Pit but I also love Breathe Electric who I guess you would consider to not have enough cred (and does use autotune). It's all about the music and the song and how it's all put together. To go off on some weird tirade where you create fake myspace pages for music you spend hours of time creating just to put down other musicians is beyond silly and overboard. I don't really care enough to argue over this anymore, so I'll just finish with this.. We did this in the summer, live in the same area and had nothing better to do at the time. We didn't pay to make any of these recordings and didn't make any money. we just wanted to prove anyone can win over naive teenagers by doing whats already been done and popular. I have no respect for people who crank the autotune to sound like a heartless robot and get myspace popular and make money off following a fad. After we did these songs, we decided we'd rather make music that meant something to us, so we started writing Bear Cop songs.

Some great points in here. I think it all comes down to the reasons you make music.

If you are making music because you want to share your thoughts with the world and create art, then you have hit the nail on the head.

However there are alot of people out there in the music 'biz' just out to make money and get laid. A few of these electronica bands openly say they are in it for these reasons and that has caused alot of electronica style bands to get tarnished with the same brush which is a huge shame.

Ah. My fault for only bothering to read the first and last page of this thread. My comment was mostly in response to someone who'd posted that "everyone knew electronica sucked." And seeing as i have a fanatical devotion to The Knife, i was not about to let that pass.

But if you're specifically referring to the Breathe Carolina, Owl City, Blood on the Dancefloor, Jeffree Star, etc. type bands, yes, i would agree with you on the utter lack of talent it takes to do that.
