View Full Version : five people in music you'd want to meet

for me, this is relatively easy:

ian mackaye (minor threat/fugazi/owner of dischord records)
blake schwarzenbach (jawbreaker/jets to brazil)
garrett klahn (texas is the reason)
dan yemin (lifetime/paint it black/kid dynamite)
jeff mangum (neutral milk hotel)

But seriously. I think it's better to think about meeting musicians than to actually meet them. We build them up too much. Redman would probably be fun to meet, though.

I've met musicians, and I always go all fanboy on them. I'm sure they like to hear their music rules, but I doubt you'll get the insight you're looking for.

I'm going to answer this with the assumption that "meet" means "get to sit down and have lunch and a conversation with."

Dustin Kensrue (Thrice): His lyrics, both in Thrice and solo, are my favorite because of how well I can relate to them. I'm not a great conversationalist, and from what I've seen, he's not much for small talk either, but we'd probably have a great talk nonetheless.

Kevin Young (Disciple): I've met him a few times at shows, and he's just such a legitimately awesome guy. Whoever came up with the term "southern hospitality" must have had him in mind. (Funny, the last Disciple CD was called "Southern Hospitality.")

Aaron Weiss (mewithoutYou): He's just such a character... A conversation w/ him could go either way, but he was pretty sweet at the Brand New/Thrice show. He gave me a cookie. ;)

Andrew Schwab (Project 86): My brother met him at a show because he won a t-shirt contest, and between what he said and what Andrew's blogs are like, he'd probably be a sweet guy to just sit down and talk about life with.

Josh Scogin (The Chariot): He left Norma Jean pretty abruptly and can't keep a good Chariot line-up, so he might end up being a jerk, but he just seems like a really cool dude.

1. Easily Phil Elverum (The Microphones, Mount Eerie), the best artist I know of.
2. Devendra Banhart, a very odd character to say the least.
3. Sam Beam, just because of his lyrical ability.
4. Jeff Mangum, to thank him for In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.
5. Jesse Lacey, to spit in his drink when he's not looking.

Definitely would like to meet he seems such an interesting character & seems very intelligent I meet Twiggy when he 1st joined NIN but did really feel it would be appropriate to ask about Manson seeing as he'd just left the band

Mine would be

Marilyn Manson
Brendan Kelly(The Lawrence Arms) Seems like a well funny bloke
Frank Turner - Seems really down to earth & from what I hear a generally nice bloke
Sam Duckworth (Get Cape Wear Cape Fly) - Exact same reason as Frank Turner
Mike Park - Because he's the Nicest guy in punk rock

Here is a story for all you kids. So a couple of years ago, I was in Buffalo with my cousin for warped tour. We look over, there's Craig Owens. I don't even like Chiodos but I don't mind looking at him, to say the least. Somehow, he was being unnoticed by everyone else except for the group of people I was with. So we casually go up to him and we talk for bit/get a picture. Then, I do something stupid. My cousin the night before drew this picture on my ankle. I thought we were close enough at this point that I could bring up something completely random, so lifted up my foot to show him and he thought I was about to kick him the balls. He started protecting the goods, cowaring in fear, yelling "woah woah woah! what are you doing..?" So, that's when I put my head down and just walked away...Good times.
