View Full Version : For the life of me, WHY can't I find people to play with?

I've recently been trying harder in terms of looking for musicians to play with that match my style/tastes and have at least some chops. It just seems though that around here, there's no one that I can form a connection with (that I know, or through friends/word of mouth, whatever) who is into stuff that I am and plays music well. I don't really wanna start off playing with people that I don't know because of obvious issues (I'm 14), but yeah, am I just not trying hard enough? Any suggestions to help me find people I can play with and hopefully eventually start a band or something or at least get more serious about it?

^How did I know something like that would show up in here?
Just join any band, even if you don't like that style of music too much. You'll meet new people through them, and eventually you'll find someone with similar tastes.

yeah man, ignore the dude above.
but like other people said, join any band, or hang around at local shows, your bound to meet some people.

mostly Bill Clintons quote will explain this problem.PgU6C0djZ4s
anyways, jokes aside...basically, like the dude above me said, just hang out at local shows and find people who are interested in the same stuff as you and just start jamming with em. if you have some of your own stuff, show it off.

FYI : You'll meet a lot of girls like this through out your life. Ignore them. No matter if they are 14 or 24, they will always stay at the same maturity level.

another thing-how did u noe it waz dirty i cld have gave him some good advice M-(
It's a common problem. Most of my friends at school used to like hip-hop, crappy radio indie or extreme metal. I've just written stuff by myself. Its pretty easy to get recording equipment cheaply and away you go!

Hang in there dude. Make sure you network yourself in the local scene. Find local bands that you like, hang at their shows. Find people with common interests. Try to stray away from online networking sites and get your hands dirty a little bit. Once you get a bit older, stuff will be a bit easier too. High school was huge for me.
It took me 22 years to finally hook up with a touring band. Many people i know are in their late 20's and STILL haven't found their perfect situation.
Just hang in there dude, when you do find the right members, it will be well worth the wait.

This. I came from a town strictly dominated by country and hip-hop. Until I moved to college I had no one to play music with, so I bought some cheap recording equipment (you can upgrade later) and just started demoing out my own ideas. It can be pretty effective because after you write the music YOU want to write, eventually you can find other people who enjoy what you're doing and might want to join you in making it.

you are only 14, trust me you will find more people to play with once you get a little older. I was in the same situation when I was your age...
