You have 15 million dollars to sign a 25 man team. Use Minor Leaguers for the bench and mark everyone down for 316,000 (minimum). Not always the case, but its stupid to pay the same price as your starters. No minor leaguers except for the bench. Use this: http://russells.freeshell.org/ddollars/ for 2005 totals.

Line up:
C- Victor Martinez (1,500,000)
1B- Ryan Howard (320,000)
2B- Chase Utley (350,000)
3B- Kevin Youkilis (320,000)
SS- Jhonny Peralta (320,000)
DH- Travis Hafner (320,000)
OF- Jason Bay (360,000)
OF- Brad Wilkerson (3,000,000)
OF- Miguel Cabrera (370,000)

Bench:
IF- Dustin Pedroia (316,000)
IF/speed- B.J. Upton (316,000)
IF/PH/OF- Ryan Shealy (316,000)
OF- Lastings Milledge (316,000)
C- Kelly Shoppach (316,000)

Rotation:
John Patterson (320,000)
John Papelbon (320,000)
Joe Blanton (320,000)
Josh Towers (360,000)
Noah Lowry (320,000)

Bullpen:
Huston Street (320,000)
Justin Duchscherer (330,00)
Craig Hansen (1,000,000)
Brandon Donnelly (420,000)
Brandon McCarthy (320,000)
Lenny Dinardo (320,000)

Total: 12,790,000

im a little bit under, but I like what I have. Its late so this is not final. When I have time I'll reevaluate what I have and make an actual line-up, rotation, and assign jobs to the bullpen.

give it a try.

Pittsburgh Pirates - 25 man roster

I might even have a few million to spare in that case.

why would you eat up so much with brad wilkerson?

The same reason I have Youk on third. I want them on my team in 2006. Besides, 2004 wilkerson put up some great numbers and I come in about 2 million under with him. Nice call on Willis, I didnt even think of him. Also, Shoppach because I was too lazy to find another minor league C. The word is, he's a good back stop with a decent bat. I think he would be suited for a back-up role. I wouldnt mind it one bit if he was on the first train out, though.

Third base for all should be David Wright, at $320k a year.

For 15 million you need 320k salaries and you wont find old players who make 320k and are good players. Later we can expand it to 50 million and then 100 million. I get the feeling those will attract more people...

50 and 100 mil will be less fun, and i'll probly still keep most of my same team and throw in ken griffey jr.

Ya, the point of 15 million was to find the cheap young talent, but I also want an ongoing baseball discussion, and right now its getting slow. 50 mil and 100 mil will attract more people and probably cause a heavier debate. Maybe a thread where you play gm for your team with a certain salary cap. guidelines would have to include certain trade restrictions....something we could play around with.

Some surprising picks here. I thought Barmes was going to be NL rookie of the year until he got hurt. I didn't know Roberts and Lidge were below the million dollar mark for 05. Should of done my research!

keep em coming.!
