Dec 4 - The New York Times reports that the Mets are in "very serious" discussions with the Marlins about acquiring catcher Paul Lo Duca.

A source told the New York Post that the Marlins would receive a minor-league prospect in return for Lo Duca, 33, who will make $6.25 million in 2006. Lo Duca, a three-time All-Star, hit .283 with six home runs and 57 RBI in 2005.

The Marlins' catcher, who attended Arizona State, has said he would be interested in playing for the D-Backs. But the Palm Beach Post says he has also drawn interest from Colorado and San Diego.

If they get him, that's BS. Ramon Hernandez is way better and is going to keep getting better.

It could be that the two are similar right now and the Mets dont want to give up draft picks?

What do you have agaisnt Lo Duca? He may not be the best catcher out there but he's been a solid catcher for a few years now and I'm happy with the Mets getting him.

Who did they give up for him? Minaya might be smarter than I think. I don't exactly how it works, but the Mets probably don't want to lose another draft pick. Hernandez is type A FA and if the Mets signed him, they would lose another draft pick and SD would gain one. Probably why they went this way.
