I've never heard that. Ever. I've never even heard Billy Bragg mentioned as folk punk. If Billy Bragg is then Woodie Guthrie is. I've always considered (Young) Pioneers to be one of the first "folk punk" bands. I just wiki'd "folk punk" and a lot of those bands aren't what would have been lumped into the genre five years ago (i.e., The Gaslight Anthem aren't remotely close to folk punk).

My friend rides a Redline Monocog on all terrain and loves it. You could look into one of those, or just get a nice hybrid. It's mostly fixed and single speed around here, but I see some people riding Cannondale hyrbrids, not really sure of their quality though.
