The Billboard Plus 44 is a new band consisting of Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker of Blink-182, Shane Gallagher of The Nervous Return and Craig Fairbaugh of The Mercy Killers. The group got it's name from the international dialing code to the UK, because it is where Mark and Travis first discussed doing the project.
"At first, we had the idea that it would have a lot of electronic influences, because by necessity we were recording on a computer. But then we bought this studio, and after we moved the band into here, the whole vibe changed. There's all kinds of stuff going on. Guitars mixed with keyboards, and electronic drums mixed with live drums. It's based on guitars and rhythms, and both Shane and Craig are great guitar players."
- Mark Hoppus (from MTV.com)
"If Blink was the daytime, Plus 44 is the nighttime. It's such a departure from Blink, but it's amazing. I play all the drums, but they're electronic drums, plus I play piano and keyboard on it. And I've been making beats for it. ... I am just going to keep working on stuff. Everything's A-plus."
- Travis Barker (from MTV.com)

Mark Hoppus has a dull, monotonous voice, and him singing all the songs does not help.
There is nothing clever or cool about a 34 year old guy singing angtsy songs like these.
The lyrics are fine in places, and the mucic is competent, but overall this band has no purpose in music, and would not get near a major label, had it not been for Blink 182.
Say what you want about Tom DeLonge and Angels and Airwaves, but they are bold, ambitious. Their music is strongly divisive, but draws a big response at least.
+44's album has come and gone, and the only reaction was a quietening down of Mark fans on Internet forums. |
i disagree. i think that the album is actually pretty creative, as opposed to ava. now, i will admit, +44 couldve probably worked on it a little longer, but i think ava is the less creative of the 2. ava is just basically u2 with some of blinks guitar riffs toned down to a more alternative sound. listen to anthem part 2 and everything's magic and youll see what i mean.also, their songs really arent that much different.and we all know that tom is just terrible live now.as much as try to see the good in this band, it gets pretty hard

12:18 PM on 05/28/07 | i love +44. but i'm not gonna compare them to A&A or blink, coz that must be all they hear, and to be still doing well and making decent music with that to live up to i think is a pretty good achievment.
