The Billboard Angels and Airwaves is a solo project created by blink-182 guitarist, Tom DeLonge. His friend and former Box Car Racer member David Kennedy, Offspring drummer Atom Willard and Distillers former bass-player Ryan Sinn are also members of Angels and Airwaves. According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office DeLonge trademarked "Angels and Airwaves" on June 24, 2005 amidst the lingering confusion of blink-182's abruptly announced hiatus. Although no specific release date for an album has been set, DeLonge claims that his new project will be "the best music made in decades" as well as being "much more powerful, emotional and melodic than Box Car and blink put together".
In addition to this, DeLonge is currently directing a movie called "AVA" which may be released in correlation with his solo album. As of yet, the only known cast member in the movie is Michael Ostman. The movie may be released on January 20, 2006. It is rumored that Resting Bird Entertainment website will be releasing the movie. The countdown seems like it could be the countdown to the release of "AVA". The movie is a third documentary, a third love story and a third CGI," DeLonge explains."It's the story of the album, which is the story of the break-up of one of the biggest bands in the world and the creation of the world's greatest band."
DeLonge has appeared in various interviews to be very positive about this project, in an recent interview with Brittish magazine Kerrang! he has said the following about the band's beginning: "Just before all the blink 182 shit happened when we were in Europe, i has a really wierd epiphany. My heart was beating about 100 miles a mintue for three weeks straight and it had never happened to me before in my life. I really felt like i'd been touched by something and i felt i was meant to do something massive."
In the same interview he has given clues for what to expect: "It sounds like it has the conceptual depth of Pink Floyd, the anthemic architecture of U2 but with Tom from blink writing all the melodies. All the songs are very cinematic, anthemic and epic-sounding. The music sounds angelic. Every song gives you the chills and you feel like you want to cry but you're conquering the world at the same time. It sounds like stadium rock done by a band that's meant to be the absolute biggest band in the world."
Many blink-182 fans have been speculating what has become of the close friendship between members since the "hiatus". Tom has said the following: I love Mark and Travis to death. They were my best friends in the world, and I miss them tremendously. At the end, our priorities were mad different, and I haven't spoke to them since the "hiatus", So instead of talking, I just made this album and this film. There's a story line that runs throughout it, it's autobiographical, I felt like I lost my two best friends, I lost the band I created, and I did it all for my family. And so I decided to write the album and make the movie about my life. But rather than sit there and whine, I used analogies about love and war, because that's what this whole thing was like. Playing music in the wake of the Blink thing was like finding love in the middle of a war zone."
Althought DeLonge and his bandmates are still working on their debut album, which isn't expected to be released until April, an exclusive song will be made available through iTunes on December 13, 2005 - Tom's 30th birthday. "We're going to release a six-and-a-half minute song, a trailer for the movie and possibly a video, as well," DeLonge tells Kerrang!. "It will all be available through iTunes. The Song is called 'Valkerie Missile' and it's kind of a flagship track for the band. Choosing a song was hard for a day or two, because it will be the first thing people will hear, but we all came back to this one. It's really exciting and I can't wait for people to hear it."
"The songs are all six minutes long, and [the music] feels like you're going to cry but you put your fist in the air and you can conquer the world... It's build on a punk-rock foundation, but it definitely doesn't sound like Blink." Delonge sites this work as the most incredible music. Not only that he has written, but that he has ever heard. "Imagine if you were in a jet plane, soaring through the clouds. That's what it sounds like." The band hope to put a song online before Christmas, with the currently 10-song, 75 minute album following this April - concurrent with the movie of the same name hitting theaters.

02:21 PM on 08/31/10 | Not sure if anyone who reads this knows but Flipster and Loserkids are having a special deal on an Angels and Airwaves tour package. Each package includes: * Angels and Airwaves Cadet Zip Sweatshirt * Angels and Airwaves Logo Belt * Loserkids Your Bracelet Sucks Wristband * "Start The Machine" DVD The price of everything together if bought separately on Loserkids (AvA official merchandise/clothing store) comes to $76. The Jacket alone is $45. But this bundle deal only comes to $29.99 + S/H. The special price is 60.54% off the total regular price for these collectors/fan merchandise. But the only way for the deal to become official is if at least 100 people purchase the bundle deal from Flipster in the next 3 days. Flipster will not charge you if less than 100 people purchase the deal and the deal will go dead. If at least 100 people purchase it then the deal goes live, you'll be charged and the items will be shipped to you. Flipster also uses Paypal so it should be safe enough? I've never purchased from Flipster before, but the deal is going through Loserkids, which I know is a legitimate site. Loserkids are even advertising the deal on their front page. I'm only posting this deal because I personally really want this bundle at this price, but it seems to be selling quite slow (I'm guessing not many people know about the deal?) and as I said, they need at least 100 sold for the deal to go live.

12:54 PM on 09/09/09 | I've loved blink 182 since I was 14 when I first heard them, and I love AVA just as much! You can't compare the two, because really the only thing they really have in common is Tom's voice, but they are both amazing bands.

08:10 AM on 01/10/09 | Wow the person before this post is sooo passionate about blink!!
In response to that...I used to be a big blink fan prior to the running around naked phase hit, but I don't think I can imagine blink getting me through the "worst" of times unless listening to ridiculous/funny songs gets you through tough times. You can go around telling everyone they are ignorant or stupid and point out songs or lyrics that could prove the supposed depth of Blink, but truth is, a MAJORITY of their songs, or to be more specific, the songs that made them popular, were pretty much meant to be funny. I will admit that "I Miss You" and "Adam's Song" did change things up a little after all the madness and I did become a fan again after that, but other than that my "worst of times" playlist would definitely not include Blink. Then again maybe its cause I hit up the depressing songs of Radiohead, old Smashing Pumpkins and Death Cab when times are rough....judge me on that if you want...
But since we are on an Angels and Airwaves page I will say that they're totally different from their previous bands and I love how each song starts. If any of you guys are big runners its an awesome playlist for long runs.

10:49 AM on 11/09/08 | id like to point out to all the people that say blink 182 did not have meaning to just take the time to look up there lyrics..... if anything they had more meaning... all ava does is sing about space shit and girls and starting revolutions lol..... ava is a good band but they have not created near the hype nor the popularity that blink 182 had.... You can say that blink just sung about fuckin dogs in the ass all you want but guess what it shows how ignorant you are cause obviously you havent popped in there last cd have you??.... the guitar parts in ava are so simple a freakin 5 year old could play them.... the drum parts are just simply embarassing and a disgrace to drumming.... tom can tell us he was on pain meds but that is no excuse ive been on pain meds and it doesnt make you say that dumb of shit it just makes you feel good.... anyway my point is blink 182 influenced teens and even adults around the world they got me through the worst of times and idk the only thing i can us ava for is if i want to drive fast at night with stars out thats about it......

reading over a magazine interview with tom, he was stating that the band was the most fantastic thing to come out in 20 years. its wonderful to be that confident, but when you're a new band starting out after a recent break up, a little bit of modesty never hurt anyone.
keep that in mind.
as for him being the "hottest guy evar", your infatuation with someone should me much more then just skin deep, you'll learn that in life. |
thats not why everyone likes them.
their music is amazing..
if you watch the start the machine DVD it explains why Tom said a lot of those things. he realized he went overboard. don't get me wrong, i love blink, but a&a actually have a meaning to their music.
