Destry

After her stint in Straylight Run came to an end Michelle DaRosa was
still writing songs but did not want to go the route of “solo artist.”
She wanted the songs she had written to be expanded upon
instrumentally and thus Destry was born. Taking advantage of
technological advancements, DaRosa was able to record a song
acoustically and send it to the rest of the members. When the songs
came back to her they were revitalized with new energy as the rest of
the band molded and shaped them into their current form. The songs,
like digital patchwork, turned from rough sketches into textured
wholes. Between the members a wide array of influences abound. Destry
showcases everything from throwback pop influences to pastoral folk
and country leanings to dense symphonic layering. With only one actual
practice under the bands collective belts they entered a studio in
California for eleven days to start tracking what was to become their
debut album. At the time, instrumental arrangement was not set in
stone. However, the studio setting allowed for some interesting
improvisation on the bands part that helped create the sonic landscape
that is found on the album. With additional vocals recorded all over
the country at friend’s studios and homes the final package came
together as something familiar yet unique. It is catchy, haunting and
whimsical all at the same time.
