The American-Scottish rock band Garbage formed in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1994. The members of Garbage are:
Duke Erikson, age 53.
Shirley Manson, age 37, on vocals.
Steve Marker, age 47.
Butch Vig, age 48, on drums.
Butch, producer of Nirvana's "Nevermind" and the Smashing Pumpkins' "Siamese Dream" decided to form a band with fellow producers Steve and Duke. The trio saw Shirley performing on MTV, and after two auditions, asked her to join them.
In 1995, Garbage released single after single, each more popular than the last, including the extremely successful 'Stupid Girl'. The band's debut album, "Garbage", was also released.
Garbage's follow-up took two years to produce. 'Push It' came out in 1998, another popular single. "Version 2.0" was another successful album.
After another 3-years in the studio, "beautifulgarbage", a eclectic and mature album, came out in 2001. Unfortunately, "beautifulgarbage" held no commercial singles, and none of the songs made it onto the charts. The album was followed-up with a successful tour of both the States and Europe.
The latest Garbage album, "Bleed Like Me" was released in April of 2005, peaking in several charts worldwide with the hit 'Why Do You Love Me'.
Garbage Discography: 1995's "Garbage", 1998's "Version 2.0", 2001's "beautifulgarbage", and 2005's "Bleed Like Me". Garbage is due to release a greatest hits album (tentatively titled "Absolute Garbage"), a b-sides album, and a DVD, all in late 2006.
