Formed in 1997, Dir en grey steadily climb to prominence within the Japanese music scene. Having released four successful albums and toured in Europe and Asia, Dir en grey has now set their sights on America. Their fifth album, Withering to death., hit music store on May 16th, 2006 and is being released by WARCON Enterprises LLC.. The U.S. release of the album will also contain a bonus DVD.
Dir en grey is comprised of five members, with vocalist Kyo, guitarists Kaoru and Die, bassist Toshiya and drummer Shinya. The five members have remained the same since the band's formation in 1997. Upon formation, Dir en grey gained immediate popularity catching the attention of the CEO of East West Japan. Dir en grey released three singles simultaneously, all of which reached Top Ten on the music charts. Dir en grey's music and lyrics expresses sentiments of sorrow and darkness, which helps them maintain an intense and personal connection to their fans, this sentiment continues on the Withering to death. album. During the production of this album, the word Wither came to symbolize their work entirely, combined with their original concept of hurt, pain, and suffering.

A loyal and supportive fan base has helped boost Dir en grey to widespread international phenomenon, as indicated by their recent performance at the European Rock Am Ring event alongside such notable artists as Green Day, Motley Crue, Iron Maiden and Marilyn Manson.
