The Billboard The Mission In Motion are preparing to release their much anticipated debut album “ Somewhere Safe” in which the old adage of what doesn’t kill you, Only makes you stronger is reflected in the bands work ethic. The bands have leapt from strength to strength earning their reputation as being one of the hardest working touring bands.
Comprising of front man Brett Islaub, along with Chris Maguire (guitar and vocals), Kent Griffiths (guitar and vocals), Rohan Welsh (bass) and Lachlan Gray (drums) the quintet have already established themselves firmly in the Australian musical landscape as one of the most promising acts . After the release of their sophomore EP 'A curse, A calling' in 2008 which debuted at number 3 on the Air singles charts, it was full steam ahead with The Mission In Motion sharing the stage with good friends Stealing O'Neal, Elora Danan, Wherewolves and were also proud to open the Sydney main stage of the Soundwave Festival in 2009 whilst headlining their own successful shows. Throughout that year however, in between tours , the quintet were hard at work with Dave Petrovic at Electric Sun Studios in the western suburbs of Sydney where putting together their debut full length album “Somewhere Safe”.
A compilation of 12 tracks that are a clear indication that the band have matured musically and instrumentally as it takes you on a journey though the mind and of Islaub as he melodically sings through some of his deepest thoughts. One such track which is etched in meaning is the title track 'Somewhere Safe' as Islaub describes
"It is about my Mother and a disease that she has. She has always been the foundation of our family and my biggest supporter so to watch someone who means that much to you get sick is pretty horrible."
On the other end of the spectrum, lead single 'New Skin' is definitely a summer feel good track and Islaub agrees. "This was written about just letting go and enjoying the smaller things in life and the company of friends."
Somewhere Safe will take you on a dynamic journey where you will encounter some of your expected tracks in true 'Mission' style including 'Hand That Holds Us Down,' 'The Whole Truth,' and 'On The Wheel,' to the more laid back tracks including 'I've Been Waiting,' a collaboration with singer/songwriter Caitlin Harnett. "I've known Caitlin for years and have always been a fan of her music so it was great for us to finally write a song together."
Another collaboration that may seem unexpected is the vocals lent by The Starting Line/Person L's Kenny Vasoli. "He sung on 'The Whole Truth' we toured together last year and we asked him if he would like to be on our record which he agreed. As a band this was a humbling experience to have someone we admire as much as Kenny to be involved in the record."
A band who are looked up to and admired by their peers, The Mission In Motion will be spending the majority of 2010 on the road, their home away from home. The band will be teaming up Americans Senses Fail early August, and then with Scary Kids, Scaring Kids (USA) which will include their first tour of New Zealand. Somewhere Safe will be released nationally on Friday July 30th through Taperjean Records/ Shock, and features a limited edition bonus disc featuring B sides & Rarities.
