New County

The story of New County started in Philadelphia, PA when Tony Rodini (vocals/guitar) and Joe Flack (bass) met in high school. Over the years they moved in and out of bands together, gaining experience and working hard to build a solid and supportive fanbase. Their latest project, The Goodnight Anthem, put them in front of thousands of fans through touring, radio airplay, and usage on MTV's The Real World. Through this time, the direction and inspirations changed, and with the addition of new guitarist Tyler Lyons (formerly of Kelsey and the Chaos), it was the perfect time to launch their new project. With a new lineup, new EP, and new name – New County is poised and ready to break into the mainstream.

The debut EP - LIVES WE LEAD - contains five energetic and well-crafted songs that clearly showcase New County’s earnest style of writing. As Rodini explains “My goal when writing is to be as honest as possible. I'm not afraid to share what I want to say or what I'm going through, but at the same time want listeners to be able to relate to the songs. The band wants to reach a wide spectrum of fans, not just the younger kids who really seek out new music, but also an older demographic who will stumble upon us and find that they enjoy the music.”

LIVES WE LEAD shows a wide variety of music styles held together by a consistent quality and sound. The almost country-sounding ‘I’m No Him’ was actually pulled from an older release and given a whole new life by producer Matt Grabe (The Maine, A Rocket To The Moon). Flack recalls “Matt heard it and had this almost mad scientist moment, totally envisioning the new version for our EP. We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out – it’s one of our favorites on the new record.” The song discusses the wish to be liked for who you are and not being compared to others, and is one of the band’s most honest.

On the opposite side of the spectrum is the upbeat and poppy, yet slightly dark song ‘Over It.” Sam Means from The Format came in to help out with this song, which introduced the band to yet another new experience: co-writing. Flack elaborates “Tony and I had a Format song on pretty much every party playlist we’ve ever put together, so it was an amazing experience to get to work with someone we had respected for so long. Sam is one of the nicest guys you could meet, and he is really great at writing hooks. We never would have attempted a chorus like the one in “Over It” unless Sam had pushed us, and it really brought us into new territory as songwriters.”

This growth has continued as New County continues writing and recording new songs almost constantly. They keep things fresh by releasing new demos every few weeks to their fans, and are currently working on a new EP with producer Christian Medice in New York City on a new EP to be released in early 2011. The group is looking forward to taking people by surprise with their new pop sensibilities, and continuing to build and evolve throughout the new year
