The Billboard The self-proclaimed "Evel Knievel of Rock N Roll," Foxy Shazam is here to make a musical death defying stunt. Since their formation in 2004, the quintet from Cincinnati, OH -Eric Nally (vocals), Loren Turner (guitar), Daisy (bass), Sky White (piano), and Joe Halberstadt (drums)have been following their own muse. The group creates keyboard propelled songs that layer spastic hardcore noise atop fractured Soul inspired pop. Speaking on their direction as a band, Turner admits "we decided early on not to hold back on any kind of sound as long as it sounds good, we will use it." The result is a divergent sound that doesn't fit comfortably in any one genre but reaches across. "We've always gone over well with our live shows whether playing to a bar full of old guys or a VFW hall full of hardcore kids we also draw a positive reaction."
Touring live since 2005 mostly on their own headlining tours the band has drawn a fanbase in many national markets with their energetic live show. Elements of this show has the band playing to reckless abandon including White playing the guys with a severed deer hoof and Nally putting out a lit cigarette on his cheek. Turner explains "It's not like GG Allin, these behaviors usually fit in with the song and sometimes we get carried away." The band released their debut album The Flamingo Trigger (2005). Written and recorded over an eight month span and completed in early 2005, The Flamingo Trigger is a timeline of the band's growth; "over the span of eight months you can hear the difference between earlier songs like 'no don't shoot' with 'french passion of animality opera'."
While performing over two hundred shows within a span of eighteen months, the word of mouth about the band began to spread catching the attention of many, including The Number Twelve Looks Like You's front man and partner of Piermont Management, Jesse Korman. Foxy Shazam became the first management client of Piermont Management, who quickly introduced their client to Nick Storch of New Weathermen Records. Storch recalls "He (Korman) told me I had to check them out and at first I had no idea what was going on in their music and put it aside. A few weeks later I put their demos back in with a fresh mind and it clicked right away, these guys are chaotic but there's also a real pop sensibility that doesn't usually occur with bands this far out." Foxy Shazam is the second artist to be signed to the label in partnership with Ferret Music.
Foxy Shazam have recently entered the studio with producer Casey Bates (Chiodos, The Number Twelve Looks Like You) to begin work on their second full-length album entitled Introducing FOXY, which is scheduled to be released in early 2008. Speaking on the new material Nally says "Introducing FOXY still has a lot of the experimental elements as The Flamingo Trigger did, but our sound has become more focused, given the fact that we have had two years of playing with each other"
