The Billboard Rock 'n roll is just about all that John and Paul Thornley have ever known. Growing up with a father that played in a band, even at their earliest years, the brothers have always had music in their lives. At the start of 2008 the Thornley brothers moved back home to Washington, DC in order to pursue music, and it was through the rich DC indie rock scene that they met local musician Jacob Michael at one of the many flourishing music venues in town. It wasn't until longtime friend and former drummer Luke Adams was thrown into the mix that the foursome was complete. They began practicing in the outskirts of southern Maryland in an abandoned mobile trailer in the back of a friend's house. Jacob remembers driving almost two hours to rehearse, and on nights when the trailer was freezing cold, he says the band would "huddle around a single heater." "Some nights it was so cold we could see our breath. Those were great nights," he laughs. The four have now moved into a warehouse in the heart of Chinatown and after a few weeks of practicing in their new digs, they played their first show to a packed DC9 crowd, the same venue where they all met only a few months prior. The show was such a success that the bloggers took notice. Case in point...
"At their strongest they combine big classic rock guitars and hooks with chilly indie melodies" - BrightestYoungThings.com
Within days of the positive press, the band was signed by Chris Black from Done To Death Management. The buzz continued to spread from DC to NYC and before long Bryce from New York City arranged to release the band's debut 7" on his indie imprint Colonal Records. It's an exciting time for US Royalty, so look for the boys at an East Coast venue in June.
