The Billboard
inematic is as dead-on as any reasonable description for the fifty
minute instrumental debut by Blackpool, England's GOONIES NEVER SAY
DIE. An adventurous, stunning piece of work, In A Forest Without Trees
is an intricate mixture of progressive rock and atmospherics doused
with an emotional to and fro that pulls and releases in all the right
places. Balancing lush, minor landscapes of sound with big swathes of
noisy, fire-peaked crescendos, GOONIES make the quieter bits sound
every bit as compulsive as the explosive highlights. This is headphone
music at its finest: swelling dynamics, colorful interludes, thick
melodies...like a fireworks display, only sometimes in slow motion.

"There is really no constant theme to the album. It was written as ten
separate pieces of music, hence the emotional rollercoaster theme to
it all" says guitarist Barry Parkinson. "The darkness of a song like
'The Scene Where Everyone Dies' for example, contrasting with the
upbeat 'Sometimes Its Not So Bad'. There are happy moments and sad
moments...pretty much the way life is really. We wanted the album to
remain open to interpretation and for listeners to take what they want
from it. That is we can ever ask for as a band" says Parkinson. Truly
a remarkable debut from a young band that you are about to start
hearing a lot more about.

GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE is Barry Parkinson (guitar), Danny Kerr (drums),
James MacPhie (piano), Simon Morgan (guitar) and Steven Trenell
(bass). The band would like to note that there are no synths on the
album. In A Forest Without Trees was recorded at Copperknob Studios
(Blackpool, England) and Kendal College (Kendal, England). Produced by
GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE and engineered and mixed by Simon Morgan. The
band resides in the blustery holiday haven of Blackpool, England.

ďA stunning, well balanced debut with vision. Wonderful landscapes
imprinted with the kind of textures often pioneered by Explosions In
The Sky and Mogwai.Ē - Manchester Music
