The Billboard "I owe how I feel about music to punk and DIY,"
- Aidan Feliciano, Gifts.
Gifts is not about soul searching, it's about definition. For Feliciano, who is now taking this solo project to the next level with two of his oldest companions, these songs are about opening the doors for those who are looking to own their lives, their art and their world. Gifts is DIY and in that sense, as Feliciano and Atlas Records define it - very American.
Inspired by a 'heavy music' mentality, these songs carry with them an emotional and narrative based weight in exchange for what is more popularly known to be something more hardcore. This is emo music a la Jeremy Engik. In so much that the main thing to take away from these tracks is their breach of complacency. Raw, simple, rhythmic, and minimalists are terms that make way into the understanding of how Gifts works.
For Aidan Feliciano, Gifts has been a long time coming. With a prolific history, ranging from an impressively skilled African percussionist to the guitar player for a Montclair local screamo outfit Guidelines, Feliciano has worked to fine tune his skills as a musician and song writer over a vast array of influences and personal expectations. The songs crafted on Gifts' self titled debut have been in the works since 2010 and are now coming to fruition after these projects have finally come to rest.
