Tom Tierney and I met on the world wide web, when I desperately needed a fill in guitar player to drop everything to come drive around the country with me for a month playing metal and supporting a band called Goblin Cock. There would be no money to pay anyone, we would be sleeping on floors or in the van every night and the tour was starting (on the other side of the country) less than a week after we met. It was a ridiculous situation that no sane person would have gotten involved in, but when Tom dove in head first I knew we were gonna hit it off. In a matter of days he learned all the material I sent him. We had some of the most amazing adventures that month. When it was over I moved to Philadelphia and Tom went back to Brooklyn.
We stayed in contact and had a growing desire to write some original songs together. Fortunately Philly is a short bus ride from New York with many different options on cheap bus companies. I've often said that if it were not for Mega Bus there would be no Tidal Arms. As we started writing in the fall of 2009 Tom introduced me to bass player Patrick Southern. He and Tom had been friends for a while, roommates and band mates in previous endeavors. The trio was solidified and in the months that followed I divided my time between NYC and Philly, frequently crashing on Tom and Patrick's couch.
We have a simple goal, to try to be our own favorite band and to try to make music that we would want to listen to over anything else. Maybe that is the goal of a lot of bands, and maybe it's an impossible goal. What kind of egomaniac would dare think they could write something on par with the compositions of their favorite musicians? Either way, that's what we are trying to pursue. It's fun to try. I'm just happy that I can still get this excited about music.
I know this tells you very little about what our music sounds like. We hope you can listen and draw your own conclusions. Biographies are usually lame. Too many adjectives.
Thanks for reading..
